Hey guys im new to the site. i just purchased a 89 s15 with a 350 bored .40 over and all the goodies. when i got it it needed to be broken in and i did that. i had to put a new starter on it and now it will initially crank but after it gets hot it turns over so slow it will not fire. i did find today that the battery is only 400 CA but is good. i think that i need a bigger battery. the starter is a mini starter and is wrapped in header wrap

If the battery doesn't help, you might want to double check the size and condition of the negative (ground) wire from battery to the engine block. And in fact, even the positive cable can be a problem, sometimes they can corrode inside the lugs where you can't see it.
They also sell a "hot start" kit which is basically a Ford starter solenoid and a wiring diagram. That works for some guys. It basically take the load off the solenoid on your starter.
And lastly, some engines don't like to spin over when hot when you've got too much inital ignition advance, like 15 or more degrees.

i would thimk that the battery being so small and putting all its power to the batt it doesnt have enogh power for your ignition to cause spark.

First, we need to know what was wrong with the starting situation....... to help all in the future.
And in regards to the stumble, tell us a little about your setup..... Carb? if so, what kind? cam? converter? ignition timing, etc.
Or, maybe best to start a whole new thread so it gets more attention/proper attention.

i havent been on in a while. but the truck has been doing good. it has 4 gauge wire from the battery that is mounted in the bed to the starter. is this big enough? the battery is grounded to the frame as is the engine. it turns over and cranks just sooooo slow. any ideas? it has a starter off of a 97 vortec 350.
