I recently traded sometime ago from an extended cab for an 85 pickup. I have most everything working in this V8 swap except I had previous notes which are long gone for adding the wires from the brake switch to a 97 Chevy Console for the neutral safety switch. This previous was a 2.8 automatic. Current wires some what a mess.
Does anyone recall what wire colors from the 85 brake switch to the 97 shifter will work to make the neutral safety switch functional. Currently the purple wire is wired direct to the starter solenoid but the truck starts in any gear. Do I need to make any changes so the truck starts only in Park or Neutral. If so how? Thanks for any help guys.

I bet you can shift into reverse as well......yep you need to create some safety type changes or your gonna ruin your investment. ......I have to do the same type of changes what typs of transmission do you have and what type of shifter these are the questions you need to consider because no one will be able to show you a diagram of your wireing that will be effective with out knowing how your shifter works and what type of transmission your using. I am using a 700R4 and I am still attempting to design something that will work correctly . so if your using a 700R4 lets talk

Queue thanks for your reponse. A couple of things. as stated I did this once before on 1985 S10 Extcab except I had a match 1985 305 V8 & 700R4 tranny using a 1997 chevy console. It was well documented and this was a year ago. That truck is long gone and some how unknowingly the paper that documented it all disappeared as well. This was a lot of work.
I started this spring on a 1985 S10 pickup. Added a 350 this time but again a 1985 700R4 tranny. I like this tranny as its just basic ie no modules etc. Previously I did have to use a backup light switch for the backup lights but the console and tranny worked fine with the lockout capabilty via wires of the brake switch. Yes now it starts and drive in any gear. Not safe. The purple wire goes direct to the solenoid and I have no problem starting. I just want the wires from the brake to the shifter to activivate the neutral safety switch so it won't start in any gear like now.
I been under the weather for the past few months and things have been at a stand still. Your the first to respond to my post although a lot of hits. This is the only thing I have left to do. I was just hoping someone else had used the 97 chevy console with a 700R4 from an earlier model. Its just a lot of wires to chase down and I thought maybe someone would share if they have done a similar thing. This truck has had a number of wires cut so i wanted to know what color wires should be coming from the brake light switch as it seems the current may not be correct but that is a guess. I'm not good at wiring diagrams and thought this was a simple request but apparently not. If your doing something similar let me know your results if you want to share.
