I have a 84 s10 ext cab 4x4.I want to remove the front dif and transfer case.Basicaly turn into 2wheel drive.I dont care if the wheels stick out just more better for turning! This was a Arizona truck and body and frame are mint.I plan on building 300+hp 383 with 700r4.
Do i still need to order the 4x4 conversion kit or can I use the 2 wheel drive kit. What problems do you think I might run into.

I did this mod with a 85 blazer, used the 2wd conversion kit, had to notch the torsion brace in the center of the truck than support it so it doesn't bend for the drive shaft. Had to remove the front crossmember and make a custom to replace. The steering colum had to be modified at the firewall to line up the shaft so it didn't make contact with the headers. had to persuade the shock mount on the drivers side a little to keep the headers from making contact. Had to cut out the front diff mounts to get them out of the way. Had to modify the transmission crossmember and have a custom driveshaft. if I think of anything else I will post, I used a th350 though. oh, the front cv axles gutted them at the wheel hub and covered with a rubber pipe cap

By the way welcome to the site, if you pay for a membership the communication will be alot easier, you can post more than once a day and PM. Look at the pics I have and you will be able to see some of the mods, the exhaust thread has some pics of the drivers side header.

I was told I could use the 4x4 engine mounts, 2 wheel drive headers and a stock oil pan and no need to modify the front crossmember. Will this work?

I used the 2wd ones, I don't know if the mounts are different, that is all I can tell you about the mounts.
