I put a '96 LT1 in an '88 and I'm trying to figure out how to make the speedo work. The '88 has a mechanical speedo and the tranny is made for an electric. What are my options--change gauges or ???

Change the cluster to a updated elctronic speedo. I think 89 was the first year. Look at the pics I have on my profile. I have the 95 LT1 withe the 4l60e. The cluster is a 93 Typhoon. It is wired from the ECM output.

My 86 has a 94 LT1, I retained my mechanical speedo by adding the original plastic gear to my 4l60e tailshaft with a kit. The LT1/PCM still needs to see what speed you are traveling, so I also added a reluctor ring kit, also from JTR that mounts to the differential and uses a 4x4 vehicle speed sensor (vss). These are simple modifications and not to expensive.
