Bought a set of heads from a company that was getting rid of their Brodix stuff. They were telling me part number BRO1008100. Looked them up and found out that it is Brodix's Track 1 CNC ported heads with 215cc intake runners and 68cc chambers set up for a solid roller cam. Competition Products sells them for $2581.95 and I got a set for $1139.00 and 47.35 shipping. I'm still freaking out about the price. I would have bought a few more sets if they had them. I'm sure I would have been able to sell them to some locals.

Now that I've got the heads, I am going to build something better to put them on. Kinda sucks. I just finished the machine work on a 383 that I bought a rotating assembly for. It is way off from what I should use with these heads. I ordered one of eagle's kits with 12cc dish pistons for running on the street. Already have a small roller cam that would work with Edelbrock heads. Crap.

I thought about putting these heads on the 383, using a flat top piston, and a larger hydraulic roller cam. Or, put the heads on a 350 I've got that has flat top pistons and swapping out the cam. Both engines were built for the street and have hypereutectic pistons. The major difference is that one is stroked and a factory roller block. What do you think I should do? Bare in mind, I'm not against selling some of what I have now if you think that is what I should do.

I use to sell a few parts out of my shop in the back yard. I just happened to be looking around on a wholesaler's web site that I had done business with before. They were getting rid of the heads because they weren't selling. Their normal listed price is around 2300 plus. This company has only name brand parts and not the cheaper racer's special kind of stuff. My theory is, why buy a $200 set of valves when a $79.95 set will work fine in a cheap street car. So, I don't do a whole lot of business with them for the cheap engines I've been building. Besides, I can buy and resale 79 dollar valves from competition products alot faster than I can sell 200 manley sets.

Can't wait till the heads get here.

Is it gonna be a race motor or a street motor? If I was building a race motor, I'd put them on the 383 and swap out the pistons. Those heads are gonna want some RPMs and a little more cubes. So I say put them on the 383, or build the 350 to the max and spray it pretty hard. JMO

Ebay the pistons and stick some domes in the 383!! You could even Ebay the cam or regrind it on a smaller base and get more lift and duration. You want be able to change the LSA though.

Get the compression to around 13:1, spray the balls off it, and sit around and sing "Froggy went a courtin".

383 it is.

Figured I might build a street/strip engine. Probably more strip than street. I thought about running a solid roller but the block is a stock roller block and the really tall solid roller lifters are pricey. Might start looking at hydraulic roller cams. I really don't want to spin it too hard. Might shoot for something like 6500 max. If you guys know of a cam that might work, let me know. I've got all new hydraulic roller stuff and was planning on going that way originally.

I've got a balanced rotating assembly. I'm going to have to do some homework and see what pistons are close enough to what I have now. I might have to go with a flat top to keep the weight the same. I also have a good friend that has a machine shop that wouldn't charge me anything to cut 4cc off the deck. Just got to wait on him to get back from a shut down.

Anyway, can't wait till the heads get here. UPS is too slow.

Got my new heads Friday. From the look of them, I might have to re-think my engine build totally. I still want to run a hydraulic roller cam and have found the one that I want to use. There was a discussion on another site that I joined years ago about some hydraulic roller cams. Joe Sherman joined the site recently and we discussed modifying one of comp's cams. Now I'm really worried about the bottom end. The cast crank doesn't worry me. What do you think about using the hypereutectic pistons? You think that the eagle rods will be ok? Only turning this engine in the max 6000 to 6500 rpm range. I wish that I had found these heads first before ordering the rotating assembly.

Looks like a steal!!! I ran a 383 last year. With a Scat cast crank, fordged i-beam rods, and hyper flat tops. Put edelbrock victor jr. heads on it,(comparable to your heads) victor jr. intake a decent solid roller cam and 825 demon on it. It ran good. I think the heads were a little much, but when I bought them I was planning to for upgrades in the future. Good luck with the build.

Copper, your rotating assembly will be fine. I've used the same stuff, pushing it alot harder than what your planning, and never had a problem. Shoot, your crank is rated for 500hp, and I've gone 100 over that, but I don't spray.

Thanks guys. Got to get it put together now. Maybe in a few weeks, I can take old blue blazer down the track. Still got work to do though and a lot of parts to order and hide from the wife.
