will not have any power because od small bore with big chambers...mid 7's to low..i would put 305 heads on it..

If you have a good rad and fans on a thermostat you should be fine, I agree 305 with those large of a chamber will probably have less power than the 4.3 L that comes in the s-10.

Have to agree w/chris1972.
The other thing is with the small borre of the 305, according to what size valves are in the heads they may hit the cylinder wall or block when the intake opens. Thats why many 305's have 1.84 intake valves

Did a quick calculation on compression. With a flat top piston, compression will be 7.65:1. You'll probably be ok on the valve clearance but you won't make any power. You'd be a lot better off getting a set of heads. Try something like a set of 601s or something. Your compression with the 601s will be about 9.5 or so. That won't effect cooling and should make for a better running engine with the mild cam.

space is right ,I have a 283 with 3.875 bore and a 1.94 vavle is the biggest you can use it will hit the block. the 305 has a 3.736" bore. what will some dome pistions do for this 305 guys ?

Man, you should feel bad for stealing that 302 for $100.000, NOT! Great find, does it still have the solid lifters? I should run really well in the Sdime. :headbang:

I built a 302 for a buddy of mine about 2 years ago. It's got the 5.94" rods and regular flat top 350 pistons. We used a set of vortec heads and a comp cams XE268 camshaft. That little thing loves to rev. Just wish we could of use a small dome or something to get compression up some. I think compression ended up being 9.1:1 (which isn't bad) by playing with the deck and gasket thickness. To raise cylinder pressure we advanced the cam 4 degrees and the engine liked it. I guess what I'm saying is you'll like the 302.

The 302 in my Z28 had domed pistons 11:1 and reved past 8000. They do like the higher RPMS!

nice rare find .not much of a drag motor awesome awesome street motor they do like to rev and they stay together well at high rpm .big valves are a must on this engine it likes to breath .spend the money and get it balanced use only forged pistons .anything less and it will come apart at high revs.still cant get over that 100 bucks for a 302 great score .
good luck and take no short cuts on that motor do it right and itll keep you smilin for a long time

well I put 305 heads on my 350 and I like the way it runs but you having a 305 with 350 heads it is different you are lowering you compression in turns lowers your horsepower man.

amazing what people have and let go for cheap...If some of those people knew actually what they are really worth...nice find and snag and run...I'd be the same way load and go.
