My boss has been telling me about this 1985 S-10 that he is selling/ needs to get rid of. I haven't seen it yet going to check it out tommorow. Supposidly it has a v8 in it but I doubt it. Prolly just the 6. It has 112,000 original miles on it and decent condition from what he has ben telling me. He is selling it for 250.00. He said that it has a rattle in the engine. I don't know if it is actualy in the engine or if it is something different but I was wondering what you guys think of the deal if it would be worth it or not. I have always wanted to beef something up with a v8 but never had the chance to yet always had the 4 bangers and high 6s. I thought this would be a nice project truck to put a small block into .Just wondering on what the rattle could possibly be without looking at it and how difficult a v8 swap to a 350 would be if it had just the 6. It is 2wheel drive, automatic, regcab. Thanks for the help ..excited to check it out tommorow and will keep you guys posted.

Hello and welcome. If it actually is a rattle, check the torque converter bolts.

Welcome. X2 on the converter bolts. Could be a clutch fork or a throw out bearing. Also, pull the belt(s) off and see if the noise goes away. If that doesn't do it, there might be internal engine damage. There is only one cure for that - V8.

Welcome, All the parts you need for a swap can be bought here. If you plan on a swap and the rest of the truck ant to bad 250 is a great deal. Well good luck and if you have questions feel free to ask.

Why would your boss lie about it being a V-8?

Thanks everyone for posting info. Alright I went up last night and checked this beast out. I figured as old as it was it wouldn't be in the greatest of shape however I was extremely surprised. It is a 85 S10 Tahoe has is a reg cab..8 ft bed. and 2x2. It is a 4.6L V6 like I thought it was. Has a new Carb,exhaust...inside is clean . Believe it or not no rust at all on the entire truck, and no dents as well. Even has A/C on it lol..I didn't get to hear her run but it can't run too bad since the mechanics at work use it to go to the part store all the time. There is however oil underneath the engine thinking it is a bad oil pan / gasket or rear seal. Other than that it is in great shape and has a lot of potential. The truck is mine now just have to finnsih paying on her and get her home.

Great deal, make a parts list of your own, and get started. 4.6L? Wouldn't that be a 4.3L. Keep us up to date on the project. :headbang:
