today i will be picking up a 350 tbi motor. my buddy pulled it out of his 1990 chevy 1500 4x4 for a slightly built motor. he is sellin it to me for a $100. first thing first is i am takin off the throttle body and manifold and givin to my cousin to replace his on his 89 k10 blazer. i guess my plan is to rebuild it, convert it to carburated, and drop it in my 95 s10 extended cab. one of my buddys have motor mounts and headers he said he will donate to me. but my question is what all needs done to convert it to carb? of course i know i'll need the manifold and carb but do i need to swap out the distributor? someone brought that up to me and it left me thinkin. anything else need swapped? any help is appreciated.

The TBI motor is a gen I block. The motor was factory with a lower compression, about 8.0-8.5:1. The swap to carbed would be easy. Just as you were thinking. The good thing about the 90 year model is t is roller cam. You can upgrade easy on a cam. You could use a stock cam from say a LT1 or something like that. The only thing that you didn't mention is the trans. You will need a 350th or 700r4 to mount behind it. The better approach is to slide the engine back a little to aid the cooling delima. The move area you make in the front, the better the options for cooling.

if you get a carb manifolt, make sure it says something about a vortec bolt pattern or the year is late 80's to mid 90's, try this one http://www.jegs.com/i/Edelbrock/350/2604/10002/-1#
then you need a big cap HEI distributor like this one http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS/555/40002/10002/-1
then you're all set.. i'd suggest some accel header plugs they make things easier

well i have the motor. i picked it up yesterday afternoon. i already thought about the transmission. i plan on makin the truck into a rat rod and i want it to be manual so i figured i'll go with a 4 speed manual.

A t10 should work http://www.jegs.com/p/Richmond-Gear/Richmond-4-Speed-T10-Transmissions/746183/10002/-1
