Just have to shout about my new found discoveries. Tranny man tore down my glide and it's in good shape. Nothing wrong except the Rooster Comb was broke and the valve was hung in neutral. So what a coincident that it broke at the same time my throttle hung and I had to do a WOT shut down.

Anywho, was going to install a transbrake and found that the case has never been drilled and tapped for a modulator valve. So I get the idea to drill and tap it myself. (Powerglides have screw in modulators FYI). It's some kind of bastard size like 11/16" or 17mm. I have been doing machinist/tool & die work for around 15 years and never seen a thread like that. So I don't know what I'm going to do except change to another case. Apparently this case came from the factory as a manual shift valve body. And it is stock GM.

2nd part of the story is, I have another glide that has been in my uncles '64 Impala since new. But it also has the weak 1.82 planetaries and PLUS a stupid 14 spline (coarse) output shaft instead of the 27 spline (fine) splines.

Shit pisses me off. I see no options except pull both down and just use the case from the Impala and put the brake valve body and good clutches, drum, sprag, etc. in that case. Nothing is easy around here. And the darndest things can happen with this truck. Just 1 of many odd occurances. For instance I had a snap ring to break once in a new distributor that holds the reluctor wheel in place. Called MSD and they never heard of that. Gave me some timing night mares as well as pulling the timing cover to check and verify the chain had not jumped. Sent me new parts and it's never happened again. You guys would not believe the shit I can get into.

I got a buddy that had the same deal on the glide. He had one built then a year or so later he wanted the brake. No hole in the case. So we just carried it to PTC in Muscle Shoals Alabama. Only took them 45 mins and only cost $40 labor. That was a couple years ago. Not sure how far that is from where you live in North Carolina, but if you can ship it they can fix it and send it back in a day. Shipping isn't bad on a tranny by ups. I cracked 4 cases on my glide last year. Carried all but one up there myself, the other I shipped. Put it on ups at 9 AM, they got it the next morning put all my guts into a new case sent it back out that day and I had it at 9 the next day. Just an idea. May be more trouble than you wanna go through. There number is 256-383-6868 ask for Lane he will hook you up if you decide to go that route. Good luck with it Stroker.

Can you cut the modulator threads w/a die to match a tap you have? What's odd,the pitch?Theres more than one way to skin a cat.

The odd part is the dia. of the thread. It measures .675" and that is around 11/16 or 17mm. And neither one of those sizes are common. I would have to special order a tap. I have a tool box full of this stuff, but no such tap have I ever seen. Not sure about the pitch I haven't checked that. But I carried the other case to the tranny man today so hopefully I will have it back tomorrow.

Cool.Be back in biz in no time.Decided to put all your good stuff in another case.I guess that one has the hole tapped for modulator.Never saw one w/o modulator.Any idea what that would be out of?
