What would be a good cam choice for my 5.3 ls? I plan to use the fuelie and TH-350 w/ 4500 stal. 3.70 gears. I have a company in mind to taylor my harness and burn the ecm. So, I was woundering what you guys would think of a cam for it. I plan to drive it on the street and the track. Just to have a good play toy, and drag some. Hope this is enough info!

Thanks guys for the help! :D

Justin.

LG cam G5X3 cam will work wonders for you IF you have great exhaust including longtube headers
224/224 cam will work good with shorties.

Probably best to check out LS1Tech website...... there's a TON of chatter going on there about LSx modified motors. All sorts of info, including cams, EFI, and their relationship,

But my only thoughts on the matter is this:
* Since you want to keep the EFI, and retain decent driveability, that pretty much limits how wild the cam should be.
* So since you're limited with how hot the cam is, no need to get a converter with that high a stall rating.
* Regarless of the above, no reason you can't build a 5.3 that'll scare the crap out of you! That's the good news!:icon_lol:

And I just noticed in your pic........ you didn't get the converter yet....... :icon_wink:

Ls motors LOVE big stalls!!!!!!!!!
large cams in these motors really do not impact drivability all that much either, its all in the tune!!!!!! dont be intimidated by cam sizes they are way more aggressive than standard SBC motors
my buddy has a STOCK Ls1 with a G5x4(600/613lift) cam, longtubes, magnaflow catback,no cats,30lb svo injectors,4400vig,3.23s,ported TB,slp maf,slp lid,QTP longtubes& y-pipe w/cutout car was dyno tuned (best way to tune) 423hp/427tq open cut out and drives everywhere without issues other than the lack of traction....

No that is a older picture Scotty!

Yeah on the LS1 site! Not really active on there. Had a bad experience a few months back on the the performance trucks forum. Dont like being insulted for asking a question. Not real freindly over there!

Never mind that!:)
But I did see a 5.3 with 4.8 flat top pistons. Stock crank, ls6 timing chain w/ 5.3 cogs. Trick flow 205 heads. Harland sharp 1.7 rockrs.7.500 pushrods. Trick flow cam 220/ 224/ 112 .575 lift! LS1 intake 90 mm trot. body. And (I Think )stock injectors.

Reported made 483 hp and 420 ft. Ill see if I find that link. This was what I could remember on the motor specs. So for give me if WRONG! lol!

Ls motors LOVE big stalls!!!!!!!!!

I heard that. But Im still reading up on that.

Thanks guys!

Rude, I still havent found a cam yet. What you think of this one.

Lunati 221-221- 283dur. .558 lift. Part no.55004LUN Grind no. RRS1-221-221

Think this will work with the stock lifters? I know the springs will need upgraded. Should sound good. Has RPM range 2500-6000.

What converter would be good with this combo.

stock 5.3 with LS1 intake and shortie headers with this cam.
TH-350 with manual body, trans brake
3.70 gears

Thanks

Justin.

Yeah they really do. I've looked at everything I could get my hands on, Talk to anyone the deals with the LS. They said the same thing. More LSA, better they act.
