ive have a 85 jimmy, with a 383 stoker and a nv3500 4wd trans.
i removed the front diff and dont need the 4wd.
i want to swap to a tko600 2wd trans.

problem is the torsion bar crossmember seems like it would be right in the way of a
new longer driveshaft. the transfer case seems to set the trans far enough back to clear it with the one piece driveshaft.

how could i make the 2wd trans work?

only thing i can think of is a 2 piece driveshaft with a center carrier mounted on the torsion bar crossmember.

has anyone else done this or know if this will work, or any other ideas besides a frame swap?

thanks!

i have a th350 but ran into the same problem, I notched the torsion member then built a support to put under the member because it bent down. An idea I came accross after was to split the driveshaft and put a carrier on the crossmember, here are some pics. I have noticed that if there is weight on the vehicle that it will clear the member, so you could take the chance of putting it in after lifting the rear by the axle, the only thing is you would have to ensure that the rear of the truck was never lifted by any other means but the axle. That is a big chance to take though you would have to carry a floor jack or bottle jack just to change the tire.

i didnt figure i was the first one to run into this problem.

i wish I would have thought of that carrier earlier, would have saved me a crapload of time and money.

i just wasnt sure how much power the split style driveshaft could handle. any ideas?
i should push between 4-500hp at the motor.
im gonna call the driveshaft place and see what they have to say.
