Hey guys! I have a question. Im going to need to replace my brake booster. Mine on the truck is a little to big. What is your suggestion on finding a small diameter one to swap in?

I haven't removed it yet, so Im open for your thoughts! Head clearance issues on both sides. I have the heater box taken care of.

Thanks guys!

Justin:)

Im sure that an aftermarket universal one would work? Is the stock one 12or 13" around?
Ha! I guess I should have measured it before asking a retorical question!

Had the same issues just weeks earlier, adjusted a/c heater box and have chosen to go with a hydrobost sytem from hydratech wich they make for the s10 just because of my large cam and lack of vacum as well it has no round pumpkin. If you have a mild cam and good vacum you can change it out for a dual 8 inch which will give you more room and clear your head/ valve cover issues, good luck with the upper bolt above the steering shaft it is tight.

to remove the bolt behind the the aluminum bracket just get a drill and a 3/4 inch hole saw and drill the aluminum bracket right in front of the bolt then you have the room to put a 5/8 socket and extension, that's what i did on my 98. as far as the smaller booster goes the dual 8" is said to be good it has the ST tag on it, the rod that attaches to the brake pedal is different but just cut it to the correct lenth and weld the the one from the original booster after you cut that one. hope this helps

There are two sizes in S10's. I had the bigger one on my truck which rubbed the tall valve covers. I swapped it with a smaller one off another S10 I had. I'm not running but 117mph in the 1/4 but I haven't had any problem stopping.

Thanks Toad. My question is if I go with this booster, will my 2000 full size pickup p/s pump work? Im going to use my '05 duramax as something to look at, while Im installing it.

ill have pics up tomarrow . I did have to extend the rod for the peddle 2in and i welded it offset. I put the small rod on the peddle on the other side of the peddle to give me more room . Hind site, i should of added 1in to the rod but it will work just fine.

Well boys! The booster is in.

I fab a new filler plate, and gasket.

2345 For some dam reason when I stabbed it on the fire wall the first time, The master cyl was in the correct angle. But now with the plate on the master is pointing up!!

2349 SEE!!! Must have the bulk head plate upside down!

I am we todd it! I am sofa king we todd it!!!

2346 The plate and gasket.

2347 Riveted in and gray stuff!

2348 Another gasket I made.

Now I have to tare everthing down again, flip the booster mount around and hope I dont have to buy a new Master cyl.
Im wearing a Tard helmet tonite, just in case!! LOL!

There are 2 presure ports on the back of the powersteering pump. I don't think you can plug the extra one. However... if you install a regular power steering pump, it will have only 1 set of fittings and I believe that will work on the hydro boost unit.

Hey Muk! If you go back to the link that Badtoad posted, the 4x4 pirate site.

They answer that question.

Yes you can. Just have to pumb the p/s pump direct to the HB. You need to run the high press line to the Hb, then the low press line back to p/s pump. Since you have man sterr.

Read the whole thread, I might be leaving something out.

1. Pressure line from the pump to the pressure side of the hydroboost (the hole closest to the accumulator).

2. There's two lines left on the hydroboost, a low pressure and a high pressure. BOTH LINES must go back to the reservoir separately. Do not plug of the second high pressure line, do not Tee these two lines.

That's pretty much it.

What I found on the site!

Good luck! Be carefull. Pumb the 2 hi pess lines into 2 sept hi press ports on the p/s pump!

Remember You have 2 Hi press lines, and 1 low press return line!

I had some mounting problems wtih the HB. Think I have it whipped!

Have make aluminum backer plate, to correct the master cylinder angle.

Ill make a templete for anyone who like to try this. I should have this done in few days.

I modified the HB rod to reach the peddle. That gave me the idea for backer plate.

I'll have pix soon!
