Was going to ask about more info about the 8.5 gm rear end but after poping the cover and cross ref. the richmond number 80-7858-1 it came back to a 8.5 gm 3.42 gear which is good news but what is the proper width measurement soposed to be for a s10 and where do i measure from?

The old owner told me he got a rear from someone else because it was stronger than stock but i swore he said it was out of a caprice (which would be wider) i would think.

so what's the correct stock width?

by the way first post, and there will be plenty more questions to come!

i think the caprice rear end is 63" wide so in order to use it you will need wheels w/ 4th gen camaro backspacing and 5x5 bolt pattern...this rear end is quite strong many Impala SS guys running in the 9s with it......
