I'm running a 7.5" 10 bolt and I'm hoping to upgrade to a 8.5" soon. I need a set of traction bars. What do you guys use or recommend? Thanks.

He is a member on this site and you can contact him via PM. If you look up traction bars or cal tracks via search, you will find out what I am talking about.

Depending on how much motor you have!!!! or whether or not you got a posi rear-- sticky tires may be a good move--MT ET RADIALS .

I have a set of MT Sportman pros with about 50% tread left but they're mounted on my 5x5 bolt pattern rims I bought for my 74 truck. I'll have to remove the tires and tubes and get a new set of rims.

I haven't heard back from Red Rooster either. Are there specific caltracs that I need?

Slide-A-Links are pretty much the same thing. Check my pics for some good views. Whichever, you just order the ones for an S-10.

Cal Tracs are like $350. Anywhere I can get them cheaper? I don't have that kind of money right now.

I read on one of these threads that someone can make caltracks for 40.00. Who ever said that would you pm me how or show me where I can get it. I am building a s10 1989 that I plan on racing. It will be a 425 hp 383.

Has anyone here tried these yet? I am in the process of getting these made to put on my truck to help the hopping out. It looks awesome but just wanted to make sure somebody tried them before I do. I am making the plates a little stronger than the 3/16 that they suggest we do not have that here so I am getting them lasered out of 1/4" plate I think that will be suffecient. Also I am running into the rod ends and there are so many and the price holy crap some of them are expensive. Can anyone tell me where good rod ends for cheap are....

Okay looks like you have a good idea try it and see how it works ................I mounted a pair of heavy duty shocks between the axle and the frame seems to work fairly well no hop and I still have a comfortable ride after I did it somebody told me that the 2001 S10 comes with the shock mounted same as I did mine but they only put it on one side.

I noticed your signature posts that you ran the 1/4 in 10.56 @ 125:
I am confused how these speeds are calculated I went out last year and made 4 runs the fastest was 125 and the clock posted just under 10 seconds it was like 9.7 or something and my slowest was 119 with a clock of just over 11 seconds..... now does that mean the clocks are junk or is it some kind of common issue with speed tracks? OH I caught a lot of flak from this to even got called a liar ...so what ..............I don't race I am not really interested in it the truck was a kind of hobby until recently and now it has taken on some special meaning to me so I am trying to find out more about what people are talking about like I said I have never been a racer nor do I build engines my machinist and mechanics has all been industrial electric motors bearings shafts pittman arms stuff like that logging support.

The 4wd truck in your avatar you say ran 9.7 @ 125 mph. I would really love to see that. I won't call you a liar, but I do cough and say B***S***.
Anyhow the time i.e 9.7 is the time it takes for the vehicle to run the quarter mile from the time you cross the starting line "trigger" till you cross the ending line "trigger" the MPH is the top speed of the vehicle when you cross the line.
Also just to let you know in order for you to run the 125 mph you say you ran in your truck it would take approximately 609 RWHP using your top speed you quoted and figuring 4K pound 4WD truck (not sure what your truck weighs) check it here

I have found that page to be pretty accurate when comparing some friends 1/4 mile times and Dyno sheets.

Queue did you run your 4 passes at Woodburn Raceway?
I have a friend that lives in Salem that told me he would run down there whenever you were going to help you figure out what the timesheets are showing. He said the first test and tune there is March 6th, and then again on the 7th 13th and 14th. He also would love to see your extremely fast 4WD. He did not want to race against you though as he hates to lose and only runs 13.2 with his Nova.

No I ran at the old track just west of the wal-mart in eugene.... like I said it is not an officially recognized group of racers..............Give me some info on your friend in woodburn .........the only car club in my area is a bunch of lifted 4x4 log jumpers and there is an english antique car club out of cottage grove the closest S10V8 owner is either portland or bend and that is about 200mile one way the guys that were using the track in eugene last time were from newport and they were a club but they were not legal people were trying to get more interest in the track and get it reopened ....but there was lot of controversy about gas verses electric and tree huggers and all that ...I went because I saw a add in the eugene weekly that a group was doing timed runs and there was a barbecue......didn't think I be getting called a liar Oh and there is an oval track in cottage grove there was a car show in coburg last summer an no one knew anything about where a 1/4 track might be .............you guys need to relize that Oregon is a very GREEN state there is very little support for any kind of motor sport not even off road and when you do something like that here you get labled as a carbon monster. there are a few people with sand rigs and ATV's but mostly it is old cars and pretty paint.until somebody puts up a purse and then the cars come from out of state mostly california. I there an official track in woodburn? Queue did you run your 4 passes at Woodburn Raceway?

did you run at a 1/4 track or was this a speed track, kinda like a land speed where you run for a good distance

well I don't want to race anyone BUT I would like to know what this truck will do an put an end to all the name calling crap.............street runs just don't count an they are really dangerous............a long time ago in Wenatchee Washington there was a speed way and oval track I ran a 57 chevy there... we were never required to have roll cages or fire suits is it that way now everywhere ?

IDK it is an old race track I assume it's a quarter mile it's paved and has a small tower but no electricity, it's all stop watches and battery or generator boxes like the one the police use............it is in the middle of a grass field next to wal-mart on the west side of Eugene Oregon when it is not being used you cant even see the tower from the streets did you run at a 1/4 track or was this a speed track, kinda like a land speed where you run for a good distance

I can say with pretty much certainty that your N/A 4WD truck did not run the 1/4 mile anywhere near the 9 second mark and nowhere near 125 mph. High nines "maybe" in the 1/8th mile. Like I posted earlier your truck would have to be making over 600 HP at the wheels to come anywhere near that time and speed. Its all good I give you props for converting your truck to a V8 but really be realistic - there are alot of VERY smart guys on this forum that you could never pull the wool over their eyes with such nonsense. You might try a few of the tuner sites I have read a few posts on some of them where CRX's ran in the 7's with only 5 pounds of boost in a completely stock drivetrain that is daily driven and still got 35 mpg.
and after reading your above post using stop watches to figure 1/4 or 1/8 times is just silly -

Thank you for the link to the calculator.................you might know of a way to measure the volume of a cylinder without tearing down the engine ??? not asking about compression .... volume so I can figure out my ratio. I think it would be interesting to know just what this engine is...........I am tired of this forum I came in here because I thought it would be a good place to maybe make some friends and have some fun but I am not into spending money to prove what I have built I am not a car shop looking to make a dollar or any thing like that I have built my truck from scrap and what it does is what it does believe what you want to your from the show me state so at least I know your being honest with me an not just a bragert I am original from Kansas been in Oregon for almost 35 years its alot different here more restricted on what you can do with your land and property then the south or midwest if you do anything creative it is mostly outside the law folks here are trying to get the emmisions laws of california passed if that happens my truck will but unregistered and that will be that. FOR INSTANCE a smoke show will get your vehicle impounded as a bio-hazard and you won't be able to get it back until you pay a fine over 1500.00 speeding will get you a 350.00 fine for every 1MPH over the limit so 10 mile over 55 and your looking at a possible 3500.00 dollar fine the car shows that do have permits for burning tires and fuel emmission variance are becomming so scarce that no one knows where they are.its kind of like a roll em if you got em but don't smoke em or your busted. all my neighbors think I am really crude an unsophisticated because I work on my own vehicles and they watch exactingly for any possible polution that might spill on to the ground and make sure that I clean it properly and dispose of the bio-hazardous material .............now different parts of the state are not as strict like in bend or sisters but still you won't find any large groups of hot roders even there. it's really not a popular idea here.folks are green and they smoke alot of it. The 4wd truck in your avatar you say ran 9.7 @ 125 mph. I would really love to see that. I won't call you a liar, but I do cough and say B***S***.

No real way to know actual bore and stroke without tearing it down. You can get the head chamber size by getting the casting number off the head and searching a few sites on the web. You can come close with the block also by getting the casting numbers off the block - that will at least tell you what you started with.

No real way to know actual bore and stroke without tearing it down. ...........................................
There is a way to check.......
Racing organizations used the P&G system for years, probably have something newer & better now. That worked by filling a cylinder with fluid, TDC vs. BDC. and measuring difference.
The obvious advantage was to check displacement without tearing the whole engine down.
.
.
Oh and BTW, Queue, that track you raced at..... was it built on a really steep downhill slope? That might explain it.............

I did the same, and was suprised how LITTLE I could find regarding the P&G Insturment or the P&G company. I found out LOTS about laundry soap :icon_lol: (Proctor & Gamble, also known as P&G)
But apparently a lot of racing organizatons still use them.
