I just got done swapping my old steering box on my '85 to a zq8 short ratio from a 2000 s10. I didn't think I would have noticed it that much but it is a huge difference. Feels like a different truck. didn't take long at all maybe an hour. would have been shorter but it was a pain getting the pitman arm to come off the the intermediate link. well worth it. just a little FYI

I don't know what is on mine. I have like 3 turns lock to lock. With no rag joint, you have to be careful with quick turns. It darts over quick.

Sorry to hijack your thread, but I got my steering box swap done tonight and have a question. I wasn't able to get my pitman arm off the intermediate link either. So I just pulled it off the old box, left it in place, and then bolted it up to the new box. The Pitman arm didn't go as far up the shaft on the new box as it did the old one. It's completely on the splines and the nut is tight, but is it something I should worry about?

Thanks,

Jeff

I would think it is alright if everything is tight. I just kept bashin mine with the hammer and it finally came off. I wouldn't think that the pitman arms are different. no parts store sells them to compare part numbers. I guess its not a wear item.
