got bored tore out my old rear end! was wondering about taking the small leaf out,bolt is rusted tried to hold pin with vise grips and used impact but no good! if i cut the bolt off do i need the pin?suggestions? also what about the shims between the springs? do i need them?

You can cut the bolts no biggy I have before and replace with simaliar bolt. As for the "shims" if you are referring to the rubber things. Those are to not let the leafs squeak. Hope that helps.
If you're talking about the centering pins,yes you definately need them.Like Hardin said if you cut or burn them out,definately replace them.They center the rear end housing.

You defintley need the centering pin in the springs. Like Xten said, it centers the axel.

yeppers, not unless you wanna dog leg it.seen people going down the road one side to the left and the other side to the right, and can see the whole left side..

you must have that centering pin. but you can cut out your stock pin and replace it with an allen head bolt. the older models were allen bolts from the factory

I agree on that one my old chevy had allen bolts.
