Thinking about moving rear frame rails in 6 inches each side using 2x3 sq. tubing and reusing the cal-tracs and leaf springs. Going to mainly run on the street and a little drag racing once in awhile. What do ya think? 10 bolt 8.5 with 4.88 gears, should be loads of fun.

you saw mine, it's a project but it works great, hooks up good too. Super cheap, but it was labor intensive, stiffining the frame was well worth the effort, the 60ft improvment really impressed me

why do you want to tub it? It should hook with what you got.

I've got a 9" slick in there now, and that all the room there is.

td have you decicided what your going to do?
if you want it to look fast then thats an ok way to do it inexpensively. If you want to just go fast, you can run a lil bigger than a 9" tire and spend that lil bit of money else where

This is true, I dont think slimer has tubbed his and it's pretty quick. I think you can stuff 10.5 slicks with the right wheels and backspace, But I still think it'd be a good thing to box the frame in though if you were going this route
The main reason I tubed mine was to tuck the tires in a little since its lowered and I didn't want any rub issues, I still end up racing a 10.5 tire in true street since that's the biggest they allow, But I have room for 14in if I go to a slippery track, or if I need it later.

I may have room for an extra inch inside, but the tire is close to being outside the fender well now. The sidewall is outside now.
I have a 9" narrowed 1 1/2"narrower than the stock S-10 housing.I run a drag radial thats about 10.5 on a stock S-10 wheel and the only part of the tire thats out of the wheel well is at the very bottom of the bedside. Not even close to hitting anything.

xten were you going to have some fun smok'in the tires.
xten were you going to have some fun smok'in the tires.Man,Harley, you got some eyeballs!Didnt think anyone would notice that.I put on a vacuum canister and wanted to see how hi I could foot brake it.Didnt work very well on smooth concrete,no VHT,and 22lbs of air in the tires.

look in my gallery i cut mine 6 in on each side using original frame rails it is the red 87 in my pics and used 3x5 tubing to connect it and bolt together like a front subframe on a older nova running a 14 in wheel and 18.50 x 15 tire . and there is nothing wrong with tubbing .

For all you guys with tubs, do any of you use it on the street? I was wondering how it does going around a 45 MPH corner or so. Is there any difference in the way it handles? Thanks
