yeah id rather go racin too lol. I live 30 min north of boston, dont know where the fine art museum is? but if your doing work for them, your probably almost as good a picaso right lol.
im making alot of progress on the malibu, only had it for 5 months and almost done (total restoration) Its gettin the old 355 from the s10 last year, edelbrock rpm heads, muncie m21 4 speed, havent found a rear yet. Gonna paint it the factory color, silver met. single stage, keep it simple since its my first paint job.
here are alot of pics http://profile.imageshack.us/user/chop57/images

here are alot of pics http://profile.imageshack.us/user/chop57/imagesI remember when you got the Malibu. You've really come a long way in a short time. You're one helluva welder. Now I can see why you havnt had time to race the 10.Thats gonna look great I can tell.2 questions...Was that a factory 3 speed? And did I see brass under the door?If its your first paint job,can I make a suggestion?Base clear it.Too much to get right at one time with single stage.Metalic control is horrible with silver single stage. You gotta worry about getting the metalic even(stripes, blotches)and Keeping it wet.Base clear, get your base lookin good, dont have to be shiney, clear it.

yes its a factory 3 speed on the floor, and I tig welded all new sheetmetal on the bottom of the door with silicon bronze wire. I apreciate the suggestion about base/clear but I cant afford it. I paid $180 for dupont single stage stuff, I know its gonna be hard to spray but ill have to do the best I can. Not a show car but a nice driver/beater lol.

silicon bronze works the nutz if your welding thin sheet metal. The stuff melts really fast with low amps, thus creating less warpage. i turn the amps down to 40-55 and crack the pedal half way. If you do it right you will have a nice gold weld (pulsating comes in to play as well) if you get it too hot, will look gray. Thats a good point about thining out the silver i'll give it a shot. And thats what sux about heads up lol someone's always faster than you lol.

Bakas,Thanks for the tip on the silicon bronze rod,and how to use them. That will come in handy. The Kid bought a 68 Camaro. Its lucky it survived the ride home from Columbus in the trailer without disintigrating into vapor.lol We'll need a ton of them.

lol no prob man
oh ya I forgot, that silicon bronze shit is about $50 for 5 lbs which is all I bought, so use it wisely. And good luck with that 68 camaro. Geeze another one on the road, what else is new lol.
