what year Ford Explorer did the 8.8 rear end come out of?? I have access to a junk yard that has lots of Blazers and Explorers. Which one would have the best rear end?? What rear ends do 1995-1997 S10 Blazers have??

Sassy,
I was strictly GM also, until I laid my eyes on the ford 8.8. It looks very stout. I believe it will handle the amount of horsepower that I will be sending to it, no doubt.

I'm not where I can read it right now, but I know that it said 3L73.

Looks like a pretty good deal to me. Might be a good idea to check the backlash, and make sure the trac lok clutches are good while you have it out of the vehicle. Dan

Will those 8.8 bolt right in & be same width as the stock S-10? or what is required to make it work?

Shovelhead: They'll bolt up, but they are usually 6" +/- wider than S10 rears. You can make that up with wheel backspacing OR have it cut down. I once read if you cut 3" off the longer side and use a second short axle, you'll end up with an 8.8 that's about an inch wider than stock S10 rear.

i put an 8.8 in my 90 s10 and love it it has 3.73 with the factory lsd i narrowed my axle so i didn't have to run a huge backspacing on my wheels i just picked up an extra right side axle and cut the left side housing down to accept right side axle it knocked about three inches of width off for next to nothing it made it close to the stock width.

after shortening the left side did you have to re center the spring perches?
