hey there, so i have just put a new stok cam and timing chain on my 305, i followed the manufacturers breakin procedure running it a 2500 rpm for 20mins, i turned it on twice befor that for 2 second bursts it shut off fine, so then i did the breakin, turned it on and adjusted the idle screw so it idled high, went to turn it off after the warm up and it would not turn off i had to go up to the idle screw and crank it way down for it to shut off anybody shed any light on this situation

If I understood that right, you tried to turn it off with the idle set around 2,000?
If so, that is completly normal. Not saying it will happen all the time with every vehicle, but yeah, something I wouldn't worry about.
Like Bakas said, I'd want to make sure the timing is right.
If the problem occurred after you reset the idle to normal, then I'd suspect
1) timing
2) vacuum leak
3) overheating
