any 0 inch wide rims being used, if so what backspacing? will the tire stick out passed the wheel well? i would like to run a 10 inch wide rim on a 275 60 15 drag radial.

I have a strong 1/2" of sidewall sticking out. Get a width measurement on the rear. And another measurement from the axle face to the frame rail. Then we can help with back spacing.

heck i figure the stock 4.5" backspace would work

I like that concept. Slap a staight edge on the axle flange, and measure to the frame rail, and another measurement to the wheelwell lip can't hurt, and make the calculations from there. You'll also need to know the section width of your particular the tire mounted on the 10" rim.

I have a similar tire on my truck, M/T 275-50-15, (26" tall) and have used both 8 & 10" rims. My backspacing is irrelevant however, as the rear isn't stock S-10 width.

BUT, just want to caution that with the 10" tire, the backspacing is critical to fit the tire in the wheelwell, and have not have the tread sticking out past the wheel well lip. That is, there isn't a whole lot of room on the inside either. The tire can rub on the upper frame rail or can even contact the leaf spring if the BS isn't right. I know, been there, done both. Pay attention to the specified tire section width when used with a 10" rim.

And it's important to clean off the frame rail of any protruding screws, brackets, etc.

I dont know what year truck you have but--my 84 s 10 has 4.5 backspacing on an 8 inch rim-- 275 60 15 mt drag radials-tires BARELY miss leaf springs--and tires are barely inside to flush with lip of fender. Also, look inside fender wells to check for bolts that pertrude into wheel well---- if I had not done that-- I think my tire may have hit that sharp end of bolt and ruined my tires.

Is it illegal to have your tread sticking out past the wheel well? I have the 8.8 rear and some centerlines that are the ford bolt pattern 10" wide with 3.5" backspacing. They stick out half way.

illegal depends on where you live....here in the common wealth on VA its illegal to be BIG, LOUD, LOW, SLOW, BIG HOOD, NEONS etc etc etc. 2 weeks ago the state trooper complimented me on my lifted up chevy 2500hd truck...that compliment cost me in the form on 2 tickets and 200 bucks. i think ima stick to a 8 inch rim

Hey man,
send me an email:

dragnflymini@yahoo.ca

I would post up pics but I don't have a premium account bla bla bla.

I have my bed off right now and took some pics.
My set up is:
28x10.5x15
15x10" wheels
4.5 backspace

clearance is about 1.5" to the frame

I also have the 98 Explorer rear end. I want to run a 10" slick with a 5.5 back spacing on a 8" rim. I am going to have to have the rear end narrowed to keep the tire inside the fender. Has anyone had this done? just wanting to get a wag (wild ass guess) of what this might cost.
