My TBI project may just have gotten put on the back burner, I found a running LY6 with less than 1000 mile on it for dirt cheap. Anybody ever used one? Are the bolt patterns the same for the tranny and engine mounts? Ive got no experiance with the Gen IV engines. Thanks.

I'll be a bit more specific, are the engine mounts the same as an LS1? Will my NV3500 bolt up or will I need an adapter? Anyone played with the VVT system? What about hood clearance with the truck intake? Will the oil plan clear or will i need to pull one from another gen 3 or 4, or get an aftermarket one?

LY6
The Vortec 6000 LY6 is a Generation IV small block V8 truck engine. It shares the same bore and stroke as its LQ4 predecessor, and also features variable valve timing.

LY6 applications:

2007-present Chevrolet Silverado HD
2007-present GMC Sierra HD
2007-present Chevrolet Suburban 3/4 ton
2007-present GMC Yukon XL 3/4 ton

Yup, its pulled from a 2008 2500 hd that was wrecked with 700 miles on it, has the allison trans behind it, just not 100% sure its going to fit under the hood

Did you get the Harness and ECM? Should bolt up to 4l60e and mounts might work.

That allison tranny is MASSIVE!!! Sell it, get your money out of it!

Justin

BTW Good score on the engine!

yeah, wasnt planning on using the allison trans, its a 4wd one with a t-case mounted to it. Got the harness, somebody had already snagged the ECM unfortunatly, been checking around for one. So the gen IV blocks should bolt up to older style transmissions (4L60E, NV3500, etc)?

I would think so. But don't quote me.

Check out ls1tech.com. Or Performancetrucks.net They guys over there have discussed this topic I'm sure!

That's a bummer on the ECM. $$$ part. :(

Good luck, Post some pictures of the engine, mounts, bell housing pattern.

Something like this would give a good idea what your working with!:D

This is the 5.3 that going in my 89' Blazer.

will do, now i gotta figure out how to get this monster home... I can get it into a truck with a bobcat, but getting it back out when i get it home is gunna be tricky with the trans and t-case still bolted to it. I dont think my engine hoist will lift the whole thing... should be an interesting day....

i think you will need an adapter 2 use your nv3500, if i remember right it will bolt together but the bellhouseing depth is different,my advise sell allison &tcase and go find a 6speed out of a v8 f-body:naughty:

d@m there goes my one post a day
