Today i officially give up on it. My 93 4-door blazer once a 4wd now a 2wd that I had high hopes and aspirations for has fought a good fight and won the battle.
Straw that broke that camals back was the water pump is hitting the taurus electric fan, so I would have to move back another inch just to clear it. On top of that the 4wd drive mounts and headers will not work. The mounts throw the engine too far to the passenger side and the headers hit the shock towers. On top of that the drivers side collector needs clearance that interferes with the gas pedal (I can't go any faster Martha, im to the floor!). One thing after another after another after another, my patience and wallet can't take anymore. I think I am going to get a 81 4 door malibu and sit my drivetrain in that instead, should be a helluva lot easier. I offered my rust free blazer to my uncle, but if he doesn't want it, its up for grabs. yeesh.

WOW dude! Take a break from it for awhile! Let the piss and vinegar run out of your veins! That's what I have to do at times! Come back with a clear head and game plan!

I have the same setup in a 85, I used 2wd headers and 2wd mounts, it was a pain in the ass but it worked. I hate to see you put all that work in and dump it, like justin said take a break for a while, look at your problems, and you will get it figured out. If you pull it all and buy a new chasis to put it in it will most likely cost you more than working out the bugs.
Good luck on whatever you decide, the pain is worth the reward!!!!

Jusbo,I think I know how you feel.I was that close to yanking the driveline out of mine and putting it in something else.A driveline vibration had me disgusted.I already dumped more money and time in it than anyone with a brain in his head would have ever done.I had no desire to finish or drive it.It wasnt fun anymore. We found the problem by accident, all good now and I cant think of anything I'd rather drive.Probably because I won.Almost like that first day you fineally get thruogh to your dog!Its like that satisfying victory that makes you smile every time you think of it!

In the end the frustration is worth it. I know...it sounds wrong but its the truth. I know the problems you are going through. The fan issue can be solved like the other have said. There is a couple different things you can do for the exhaust issue. I will explain. 1st one other said 2wd fits and works. I can't confirm it myself. The problem your having with the header hitting the shock tower is because the mounts push the motor to the pass side because if it didn't the oil pan would be hitting the front diff. Since you don't have a front diff I see where they say the 2wd headers will work. I had the same issue with a set of headers I bought. I had to move the shock tower out @ 3/4 of an inch. With a cut off whizy wheel, a welder and a couple small piece of flat stock steel from Lowes its @ an hours worth of work to move. After I did that my 1st set of 4wd headers worked perfectly. After they rotted out, I had to buy new ones. The new ones I bought were made tight to the head on the pass side so you didn't have to move the shock tower. Now I have miles of clearance between the tower and the header.

Just take the job 1 set at a time. Your doing a swap that was never intended to be so unfortunatley its not a cake job. With some creative thinking you'll get it done.

I have a few exhaust pics and shock tower pics in my gallery. Some aren't real clear, if you want them blowed up PM me and I will find and email them to you.

i feel your pain. thats why i went a different route before i sank any money into the next S10. i have messed with alot of them and have delt with alot of problems. as common as a swap as this is there should be a more complete bolt in kit. that makes it rough. i say do what your heart tells you. thats why i went with the mazda. for $1800 i got a COMPLETE kit. and it was all bolt in. plus there is a tons of room to boot. good luck with what ever decision you make.

Sleep helped. Well its been 3 years in the making. This is my first major automotive endeavor and I've learned a whole lot. I think i've ruined more things than i've fixed/made better. The engine is two inches from the firewall and needs to go back one more to clear the taurus fan. To move it back I have to slot the trans mount (some more) and bash up the firewall even more. Not just in but up because the tunnel is almost at its roundest point. I've ordered the 2wd parts and those will be here tomorrow.
So say the 2wd parts takes care of the shock tower problem, then what in the world would I use as a different fan, with A/C (because NC summers are half as bad as FL summers)? It would need to be a pusher, but where would I mount the A/C condenser?

Well first off you picked one of the hardest swaps to do . A v8 in a 4x4 is pita and second if the fan is the only real issiue then get rid of that fan for a smaller one and mount it up front . The stock fan shroud should work and youll need one . Have you had it running ? and does it get hot ? Just take one thing at a time .

Hey man-- I;ve seen your truck up-close--- you have a nice motor there-- I remember telling you that i would come help you if you just call me. I got sorta restless with my s 10 at times during build. I have a short fuse at times but, i just said the hell with it and left it alone for a few days-- went back and the shit just fell in place. Relax. sometimes you can't see the forest for the trees!!!!!!! your swap makes for more obstacles since you want to keep the air-- air is a good thing--you can conquer it. all this knowledge on here can surely get you out of that seemingly endless pursuit of completion. You have a good young brain in your head-- I seen that in you. DONT quit. Just pause a bit . Dennis

right in front of the condenser and you can also mount one inside for a puller maybe a 10 incher. the 2 wd parts will help you alot more then you think.

Ok, I decided not to sell it. I got an 81 malibu sedan instead to swap the v8 that I built into . I am going to take the 3.8L v6 from the malibu and put it into the blazer, and just make it into a nice comfortable ride that looks good. The 3.8L has 46,000 original miles on it, drives like a dream, everythign works. Total sleeper, and gobs of room. So, what do you guys think?
