ok, this is my first swap so forgive me of my cluelessness
but what all do I have to change to go from a tbi setup to a carb.
I want to get the edlbrock performer, intake manifold and a 1" spacer, then I need to get a stand alone controller for my 700r4 tranny a new fuel pump and ?????
some help would be nice, I have been trying to do the swap with the tbi, but it has problems so I decided to just forget it and go carbed so I can finish this thing, and have more fun with it too.
Thanks
:D

jegs or summit has the control for the 700r4.

The in tank fuel pump can be used and you will need a by-pass style regulator. The pump is controlled by the computer and the oil pressure sensor. You need to alter the wiring to delete the computer. You need to keep the DRAC that is attached to the computer to keep the speedo working if it is electronic. The power wire to the coil will be the power to feed the HEI if that is what you choose. You can keep the sensors and wiring for temp to keep the cluster.

I did a tbi conversion in a s-10. What type of problems are you having with the tbi swap?

thanks guys,
what is the DRAC that I need to keep??
the tbi has a few burnt out wires, the knock sensor is in the way of the mount, and for some reason it does not want to work, but that might just be my bad wiring skills. another reason for the carb.

The DRAC is the small box that is attached to the computer that is a speed buffer for the cluster.

thanks,
and thanks for the advice about the fuel pump too, that will save me a bit of cash.

Terry,
just wondering how you wired up your tbi in the s-10? It might be easier and cheaper to just get that working

All of the wiring was there in mine, so it was pretty much plug and play. As for the knock sensor, I know what ya mean about it hitting the mount. I used a 1/4" street ell pipe fitting. It will relocate the sensor to clear the mount. They cost about a dollar at the hardware store.

This first thing you need is a good manual with your wiring diagrams in it. I just swapped from a 2.5 tbi to a 350 carb. I have zero wire problems and did away with all the computer controlled crap. I do have autometer water and oil pressure gauges though. As for the manuals I got a Haynes and Chiltons .....they do vary slightly on the diagrams. As for the 700r4, ive got a switch to turn on my lock up on my dash. Heres who you wire it. see pic.....

This the cheapest way to do the job..... the lock up will cancel when the trans. down shifts to 2 nd gear. (just in case you forget to turn the switch off)

well, looks like I'm heading to lowes after work tomorrow
and thanks for the tip on the tranny, I was just about to buy a kit for 80 bucks, but this sounds a lot easier, just makin shure, I get the one wire connector then hook that up to a switch on my dash, maby connected to a keyed hot?
thanks
