uh.............not really what i meant. i mean, do ya hold it in first? shift to second, shift to third? how long do you hold it? etc. its a th350, 3.73 gears. i\'ve heard lots of different opinions about how to do burnouts, i just wanted to get some input. i\'m kind of worried my truck\'s gonna get squirrely during the burnout, ya know, like sliding to the side and stuff?

I start off in 1st and getem spinning good and shift to 2nd and right about the time it starts smokeing the tires the ass end comes around and I slowly let off the brake and it straightens up. Just dont go past the start line its a hassle backing up and can play with your concentration

what i do is go around the burnout box,so you dont wet the front tires back up to the water box quickly spin tires is water move up about a foot or sospin tires till white smoke emerges and spin them to the pre-stage lite then stage the truck......

Pull around the water box like rudedogg said. Back up until your front tires are on the wet pavement or cement in front of the water box. Start out in first gear and rev the motor until you hit 4500 rpms. As soon as you hit 4500 shift to second gear and hold at 4500 until you see some smoke. Let up on the brake some to help the tires get out of the water and roll foward. Do not \"dry hop\". MT recommends this burn out and I admit that it works really well with their tires. Once you have done your burnout, don\'t fart around and let the tires cool back down. You might want to let the car you are racing get started on their burnout before you start yours. Good luck.

i\'ve always heard you don\'t want to do your burnout in the water box because it\'ll splash water up on your fenderwells that will drip back on the tires after the burnout. what do you all think of that? have you ever pulled just past the water box where your tires are wet but not in the water? how long do you hold the burnout after you see the smoke? keep em rollin a while? or go ahead and let off? when you let off the gas, do you completely let out of it, or do you ease out of the burnout? most tracks here don\'t want you to go past the staging beams on the burnout, except for really high hp cars.

I smoke mine for about 5-6 seconds. Pull past the water box. ease off the gas

You have the same tires I have. Here is what I have done for my bets et.

I pull through the water box until the track staff say to stop. MT tires do not tend to smoke much. I power brake the truck and rev it up in drive until I see a good cloud of smoke and I let off the brake and pull away from the water box spinning. The water on the front tires will dry by the time you get to the line.

One thing you want to watch is the engine temp. You can smoke the tires, but you can also heat up the engine. play with it until you find the best ET. I try to stay below 200 degress at launch. If I come back around and a burn out will put me over 200, I hold off running af

again.

I agree with the roll around the box to keep the fron tires dry and back into the water. Then get the tires wet, pull just to the front edge of the waterbox and spin the tires. DO NOT COME OUT OF THE BURNOUT IN 2ND gear! Both 1st and 3rd are OK. The transmission is weakest in 2nd gear, due to the sprag that holds the 2nd gear.

Do not hit the rev limiter but look for smoke. Once you see some smoke, just let off the brake and get ready to go. Most of all have fun and represent the V8 S10 crowd!

I put the back tires in the water. Put truck in drive (manual valve body) push brake pedal and flip line lock switch. I spin the tires till I hit 4500 rpm and hold it there. Watch the tach. When your tires are ready they will start to pull your motor down. It is pretty noticeable if you keep rpms constant. It drops mine about 600 rpm when they are ready. I turn line lock off and and ease out of throttle. Go stage and have fun!!

I was thinking about it a bit more. I have someone watch my tires at launch to see if they spin. If they spin, I may heat them up a bit more next time. I just don\'t get it going around the water box and backing in. Seems like more work with no benefit. I would think the same logic would mean the cars in front of you get the track wet. If that is the case, your track staff is not brushing the water out of the box after they spray. If you need to drop the trans into a lower gear to do a burnout in water, you may not need to heat the tires up to begin with.

Edit: I think I hit around 4500 like Grim.

i\'ve always heard drive around the water box also, but i haven\'t seen many people do it. the logic does make sense to me though. but street tires will hold more water than skinny drag front tires. some tracks i\'ve been to don\'t have enough room to drive around the water box. thanks for all the info though, i\'ll have to experiment with it i\'m sure.

slap the line lock on ,,, ease of the clutch through first then second- sometimes third if you want to win the burn out contest!!!!!

the one thing that bothers me at the track is all the guys with street tires burning them off like slicks,, no tsure if they know it doesn\'t make that much of a differance-

Heating up street tires makes it worse. They turn to snot. Slicks get tacky when they get hot.

i start out in second then into third as it starts to grab i let off the line lock and full throttle it. i have 4.88 gears with a 5000 stahl conv. . if you have 3.73 or lower gears i would leave it in second and not go to third, but do start out in first.

The track in my area won\'t let you do Burnouts with anything other than Slicks. They told me that street tires leave too much trash on the track. They said that dry hops are OK, but no water box burn outs.

Remember air pressure!!!!!!!! 15 lbs worked good for me.

Good point! I took mine down to 10 psi. 15 is a good start. Check the pressure after you have heated them up. You can gain 2 - 4 psi from the heat.

in addition to my former post,if i am not on sticky tires i will do a warren johnson, john force burn out cause it gets the crowd goin,it may not help with traction but it helps recognize the guy that does killer burn outs http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif

Compound improvements have helped to reduce the need for long smoky burn-outs. Drive through the water box to prevent excess water being trapped in body panels, lock anti-roll device, begin burnout, watch for smoke to rise. At that time release braking device and accelerate to the start line. Go directly to the start line, it is not recommended to do any dry hops, as this will allow better heat transfer to the track surface. Please note, that this is a general guideline and if in your experience with your vehicle you have found that another combination in the burn-out process will work better, use your approach.
