Because I can\'t seem to find a center console that\'s thin enough to fit between my buckets I have decided to just fabricate one.

What material would be the best to use? I\'m not even sure where to begin, but any advice would be helpful.

Has anyone here made one? Do you have any pics?

Thanks guys..

wood would be the cheapest and easiest to work with.

You\'re going to cover it anyways, right?

I would use a plywood at min, I wouldn\'t use any of the pressed board or particle board.

Yeah plywood would be my best bet, but what do you think I should cover it with?

Vinyl or a strong cloth, tweed or something.

You could even do leather.

Plywood would be the easiest way to go. If you want to go super nice you could build a

fiberglass console. Or maybe check out someone that does custom stereo\'s and see if they could build you something. They build fiberglass speaker enclosures why couldn\'t they build a console?

Good luck,

Jeff....

how much space between the seats do you have the cutlass consoles are only about 5\" wide if that i have one in my 51 pontiac and if your gunna cover it i\'d do a tweed cover vynal and leather make it really tough.. .it has to be a perfectly smooth surface or else it shows up in that stuff to easy

couldn\'t you just run carpeting around it?? unless your truck doesn\'t have carpeting ... i don\'t know.

You can make anything if you know how to glass. I hear that carbon fiber isn\'t too much harder than glassin. I can\'t do either, so Im not much help. Im gonna try modding my current console, its too long after I moved the shifter back. Im gonna try shortening it, and adding a cup holder.

I\'d make it out of aluminum, it is lots lighter and looks good uncovered, and not that hard to work.

Mines made out of 1/4\" plywood covered in tweed. First piece it together with cardboard to get rough ideal. Then lay out the cardboard to cut the plywood. LOL http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif

The messy way is to use fiberglass to make it. It will be very light and you can do anything to it to make it how you want. I made a mold for mine and then used body filler to finish it. Then painted it the same as the truck. I would say that fiberglass is the way to go anyway you look at it. Might take more take a little more time then just cuting wood but its worth it. I will try to get a pic of mine up sometime.
