I have a question on nitrous injection what is it that causes so many engine explosions?

i really know about this....ok first you have to know how to install it..and install it right ...like don\'t use cheap parts ..use good wires switches and so on...and second and most imporant of all it\'s all in the timing...retard the timing 2-3 degress for every 50 horse shot like a basic 150 shot ...with out n.o.s. lets say at 36 degress but with the bottle on it should be set at 30 degrees ...and i have seen a lot of people run a 200 shot on stock pistons..well it will work but only for a few passes and than booom...you also have to have at least 7 psi of fuel pressure for any thing over a 125 shot..some people say that n.o.s will hurt your motor and it will if it\'s not right,...but i had a mustang before i got my s10 and i had a 200 shot on it and it was on there for 2 years and i would use 2 bottles a night at the track in tulsa oklahoma and every pass on n.o.s and than drive it home ..not one time did i ever hurt any part..hers the formula........good spark like a msd box+good fule pressure+good timing skills or a timing box+n.o.s = going fast ... http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif

Try Holley.com They have a link to their NOS page, which has a bunch of info and FAQ\'s.

You need more than that. First off, its not called N.O.S, that is a brand name(which most people associate with nitrous oxide.) Second, the shot, You can run 200 safely on stock pistons if the fuel sys are up to the challenge, the fuel pressure needs to be at least 7psi no matter what shot you are running and that is for a carburated motor Fi needs more than that. Spark ,and bottom end of the motor are also a big factor . When it comes to the timing, yes you do need to retard it, but how much depends on how much power you wanna make. If you retard the timing too much, lets say for a 100 shot, you would probably only be getting about 60hp. If you want the most out of the kit you need to keep the timing at about the same level(about 4-8deg retard depending on how much power you want to make). Given the fact that it\'s not near as safe that way and you are lible to blow out a cylander or a burn a hole in the top of a piston. Nitrous Oxide has a really big stigma put on it by people that know nothing about it and thats what gets me more than anything. If you dont know, dont make up stuff that sounds good. I know a guy that started spraying his motor a 100 shot (completely stock) when it had 180,000 miles on it. Now with over 190,000 miles he is spraying a 150-200 on a regular basis(at least 2 times a week) This weekend he is goin to spary a 200+ on slicks with a stock rearend launching at 6000,and still a stock short block. You also dont want to buy a kit that is not complete, dont try to peice one together yourself by buying peoples partial kits. Buy a complete kit for your application. N.O.S is one of the top 3 brands that i would recomend, #1 being TNT, #2, Nitrous Express(NX), #3, N.O.S, #4, Edelbrock. If you want to add the juice to your ride dont be scared, just make sure that everything is ready before you do it.

that is the only retared thing that i have seen on here ...man you are stuipid....who ever it is that is running a 200 shot on stock pistons is either lying about the shot or has forged pistons ...and even if the are stock and he is putting 200 on it than he will not be for a long...and it\'s not me and just as simple as that a cast stock piston no matter what brand or motor will not hold up to a 200 shot very long..and also if you read my last post you will see that i said retard the timing on a 150 shot or more like 6 degress ...if you retard a 125 shot than yes you will get only part of the power..so don;t be stuipd ...try putting a 200 shot with the timing set at the normal timing marks without retarding the timing and i promise you that the car or truck will not not not make it more than 2 passes..i\'ve ran the bottle for years and years and i have never had a back fire or melt down ...you on the other hand i would guess has problem all the time http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif

This is on the subject. And no i dont have any problems with backfire\'s and meltdowns. I am going to let that guy post tonight when he comes and he can \"educate\" the Uneducated about nitrous... If you see anything that he\'s not telling the truth about then you need to go read some more about nitrous. Also i know for a fact that he is not lieing about what shot he is running because i handed him the jets last time we were at the track. And the motor is STOCK. I never said to \"not\" retard the timing on a 200 shot, but i did say that the more you retard it the lees you\'ll get out of it. I dont consder this a flame at all. I dont take this stuff personal for it is just friendly debate over car facts... http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif You just dont have the facts and you\'re trying to contridict what im saying is the truth.

PS. Ill let you know when he posts so you can read it very carefully.

bads10 asked a question of what causes the engine to go boom and i think he now knows why i have never used nos but want to i plan on some day using it on a fuel injected engine a dry type system infront of the maf and let the computer do all the work

This is the guy lightweight was talking about.

First of all, it\'s nitrous, N2O, not nos. NOS is a brand name, like Coke and Pepsi.

I use an NX (Nitrous Express) wet system on my 1990 5-liter Mustang. Yes, the stock pistons are forged. So far I\'ve only run a 150shot with the timing retarded 4 degrees over stock. I will run the 200shot tonight (assuming the jets got here) and will put the inital timing at 8*. I run a window switch (basically mandatory with a manual tranny) set to come on a 3000rpms and to shut off at 5800. The window switch helps me out on the top end by cutting off the spray before the limiter so I can powershift the hell out of it without worrying about the limiter cutting fuel and melting the pistons.

Nitrous only blows motors when a)you run way too much of it and go lean....the flame front is WAY too hot and it\'s basically like a blowtorch on your pistons, and b)you simply add too much horsepower for your block to take and it breaks the damn thing. Try to run too much timing and you could get detonation, which is one of the worst things that can happen. Do it right though and you\'ll have no problems, just reliable easy horsepower.

A Zex on your S-10? That is an import Nitrous kit. Look at these

I am going to get NX nitrous express for my truck but ONLY after I get my 4.3 crate motor then i am going to get forged pistians and other parts but the shot is only going to be a 75shot that is all i am going to put on it

i used a 275 shot on cast pistons and never had a problem and that motor was street raced 4 nites a week and raced at the track 3 nites

I hate to pull out the BS card but i think that statement is pusing it too far. I guess i have no place to judge your statements but i once again would have to see it to believe it.

is that towards me cause i still have the 275 shot on this new motor that has cast pistons and i spray it tons and tons of times the pistons are from keith black they are as cast as u can get and they still hold up

Man i just cant believe that, but i guess if you are then you are. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif

You should call Keith Black and tell them that you are spraying it 275 on their cast pistons. Bet they would like to use it in their advertising..Good for business http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif
