How much clearance should there be between the air cleaner and the hood? I mean to allow for engine twist? I had to add a spacer to my aircleaner so it would fit above the HEI. I wasn\'t aware of the amount that a Edelbrock carb is shorter than my old quadrajet. Right now my hood fits fine. But there is only about 1/2in between the hood and the front center of the air cleaner and about 3/4 on either side to the bottom of the hood. Do I have enough room or do I need to reconfigure my air cleaner?

Oh, and I am using the 2.8 mounts if that maters and also my motor only has maybe 330hp. Thanks guys

i was told 2\" for the carb to breath correctly. as far as motor twist if you have enough room its fine. but the 2\" thing? i dont know how true it is.

I would say as long as the hood closes and the air cleaner doesn\'t hit it, It should be fine.

Space.

I have a 1/4\" front center on mine and I haven\'t been able to make it hit.

Alright. Thanks guys. I was just worried that if I got in it that it might \"kiss\" the hood. Its a harwood lift off so I guess it would give alittle bit too. Thanks guys.

The 2\" thing is for the carb to the lid of the air cleaner. Some drop base air cleaners with shorter filters are real close to the top of the lid.

I was reading a tech article. Can\'t remember where. The air filter was 2\" x 14\" and they were worried that there wasn\'t enough air flow so they put one of the K&N covers that flow air in the top. It actually turned out that it hurt performance. K&N supposedly said that with air flow through the top at a height <3\" above the top of the carb can cause turbulance that upsets smooth air flow into the carb, hurting performance. I don\'t know. Guess I\'d have to try it to see for myself.
