Hi, I\'m new here as of yesterday, I\'m real glad I found this place as I am in the process of learning everything I can and planning my V8 swap. I have a 2003 Standard Cab GMC Sonoma with Vortec 2200 and auto trans. I plan on either - 1. a stock Vortec 5700 with 4L60E and Sierra PCM, 2. a 300-400HP Fuel injected 350 first gen small block and 4L60E with separate controller, or 3. a stock LS1 with 4L60E and a F body or Vettes PCM. I purchased the fella\'s Ls1 conversion CD, and am going to order hte V8 bible as soon as I get to it as I want to see the conversion from a few different choices and views.

Currently I have lowered the truck myself to 5/4 with all Belltech components. It actually is not a 5/4 yet because I used V6 springs int he front to be ready for the V8 so its actually a 4/4 now. I used 2 inch spindles, 3 inch v6 springs and belltech shocks in front. In rear I used 3 inch drop leafs, and 1\" 2 degree angled blocks and belltech shocks.

She sits on stock GMC logo wheels wrapped in 235/60/15 Goodyears all around.

I plan to keep this wheel and tire setup with the V8, it shoudl be good enough for me, and be sleeperish.

Anyways, if I do any of these setups and stay under 400 Horsepower will stock driveshaft, my stock pinion and ring gear (4.11 gears) and Eaton Posi LSD in stock rear end housing, and stock axles be allright and reliable? I am not going for 1/4 mile times, just a powerful S10 that can be daily driven and hold its own against sports cars in highway runs. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif

Hey Mike, welcome to the site. Just curious, where in Pennsylvania are you from?

Hey! I\'m actually from Milton Pennsylvania. A smaller town.

While I\'m here, are my 4.10 gears ok for a small block like the LS1 and a 4L60E automatic transmission for daily driving at freeway speeds or am I going to loose fuel economy and be driving at 70mph with RPM\'s that make the LS1 unhappy. Can I still do 120 MPH or so without hitting the rev limiter on the LS1? I normally drive to work at 100-120 MPH so this is necessary. LOL J/K http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif

i go through the traps on a 1/8 mile track, in 3rd at 4800rpms@89mph with 4:10\'s....if your going to cruz with this truck, you might want to go with 3:42\'s....

if you can afford it, then the ls1 is the only way to go. as for the gears, there are tons of f-body gys running those gears. with the od tranny, you should be fine for cruising.

IMO considering you have an overdrive Tranny, and the fact that you plan on using it on the highway, i would maybe go with 3.73\'s It\'s a good gear for what you plan on doing. Good around town, very zippy, and would be decent on the hwy with the OD tranny.

Just my .02

Good luck with the swap!!

The 235/60/15 tires are right about 26\" tall. If you figure in 10% slipage for the torque convertor, it works out as follows:

70 mph at 2900 rpm in overdrive

123 mph at 5000 rpm in over drive

70 mph at 4100 rpm in drive 1:1

120 mph at 7100 rpm in drive 1:1

I would just make sure the tranny can\'t kick out of overdrive at 120 mph. If it kicks down to drive at that speed 7100 rpms will not be friendly to the motor.

There are other loses to account for, but this will get you in the ball park.
