8.5 Rear End

What years did S-10 or S-15 come with the 8.5 rear ends

somebody correct me if I am wrong but I think 94-95 and newer with 4.3 and stick.



I am going to build my own 8.5 from a truck and narrow it with 31spline axels.

I do know i have a 7 5/8. I hate Fords. I would like to keep it all GM if i can. I was thinking of maybe a Dana might work. Does any one know there Web site address. If it comes down to a Ford peice of junk I might do it.

My research says 96-98 in the 2wd version. Only came in short bed, standard cab trucks with the HO L35 4.3 and a 5 speed. They only came with 3.08 gears, a factory locker, and were 30 spline. They are a direct bolt in for a 2wd truck or blazer, but you\'ll have to shorten the driveshaft about an inch or so.



I\'ve found that the locker is one of the weak points. Few guys I talked to have sheared the teeth off of the locker.



Why would you shorten an 8.5\" 10 bolt? If your going through the effort of doing a custom axle, do one your sure will hold up.



If you gonna shorten one, do one worth it.

I\'ve never seen a Sy/Ty with an 8.5\". And, those are AWD, which means they are wider just like a 4x4.

I use a 9\" from Currie and it works great. If anyone wants one I also have a 7.625 2wd housing and a \'78 Camaro 8.5 10bolt just laying in my shed.

How are you gonna call a ford rear end junk, or a ford junk period!!! I put 600 hp to a sightly modified 8.8 in my 93 mustang. Maybe you need to open you mind and use what works rather than being so damn stubborn. My theory is if it goes fast and is fun to drive, who the hell cares who makes it. Your just going to change and modify everything any ways. Ease up on brand loyalty and and have fun at what your doing. Just my two cents.

As Of right now i have two trucks i have to rebuild but there are somethings right now from getting these trucks done. First since i have a loan on my 92 sonoma i have to get that up in running as soon as i can get my 327 rebiult for it. The other truck is going to have to wait for about 2 years because of school and since i might be getting deployed this summer for six months. With my 83 i want to go with a 350 or 383 then i will probaly go with the 9 inch on that. Yes i can be stubborn sorry i get it from my dad. Two friends told me they will ggve a 9 inch they have laying around. Plus with the problems that i have had and family and friends have had with fords in the past most of us hate fords. Shit my bro has a ford f150 and not even two weeks later we had to replace the fuel tank on it. the dealership didn\'t want to change it for free, and when my dad and i looked at it they put a patch that wasn\'t more then a month old by how it look to fresh. Yes so i am stubborn about fords sorry

the ford 9 inch is a waste unless your running huge huge power, they take more power to turn than most diff\'s, and also mustangs do kind of suck, any idiot can go write a check for a \'fast\' car it takes brains and skill to build a v8 s-10 also there isn;lt a million of them around, theres so many mustangs around and so many people think they are the most amazing thing in the world because they run low 16\'s high 15\'s stock.... wow thats almost impressive, you bolt 350hp into a s-10 and it runs mid 13\'s.... in my opinion looks better, can handle better if done right, and can be built for half the price of buying a mustang, i\'d rather build something and be proud of what i\'ve done than go write a cheque for a slow car and try and brag about how fast it is to somone that has v8 s-10 and get my ass kicked... the lincoln that my mom baught two years ago has gone through two motors in the period of time we\'ve had it, and beleive me it gets a oil change once a month and she drives like an old lady so how CAN\'T you call ford junk? have you ever tried to change the heater core in your mustang? if you ever have to do it think about what i just said while your doing it, i have never seen a gm vehcile that you have to pull your shifter drop the steering colmun pull the dash off and then spend 45 minuits screwin around with the heater box tryign to get it out, then the same thing to put it back togather, ford does some very very stupid things with their vehicles, i\'m not saying gm hasn\'t either for example my 67 gto you have to pull 2 head bolts to change the number 4 spark plug, then you have to put new head bolts back in, but thats not near as dumb as a 5 hour job to change the heater core... just MY two cents

i picked up a 83 convertible for $150. got a 429 from my dad free with c-4 tranny. about 600 hp est. on an 8.8 rear end. beefed up control arms. never on track but scarry to drive. nothing wrong with mustangs. just the idiots that own them thinking they are factory fast. my full size gmc smokes 5.0 stangs in the 1/8 mile by 3 cars links9never ran in 1/4). talk about ego busted. get rid of the ego and then you have a person that has seen reality. build it right, act right, and dont be afraid to get beat. if you do oh well. if you win, dont be an ass, just shake the hand and get back in line for the next run. it is all about the fun. oh, think about what the pony car driver\'s look on his face when a 84 toyota 4x4 spanked his ass. thats what happens with a 350 in it.
