View Full Version : Lt1 in a 94 S-10
LT1S-10

I just bought a Lt1 to put in my 94 S-10. Its a 2.2 5-speed right now. I need to know where to get motor mounts,(all the ones I have found so far are for pre 94) headers, and if my 5-speed will work with a 4.3 bellhousing. Any info, links, and tips you have would be a big help.
Thanks
Kevin
I wouldn\'t recommend using the transmission from the 4cyl, if it would even work. Which mounts are for the pre 94 only, as far as I know the mounts work with them all, all that had the v6 to begin with, and if not you just need to get the frame mounts for the v6 and put them on your frame. You have a few options for the headers, Hedman makes a set that work good, but some say it\'s poor quality. Sandeson makes a set, but they are pieces, and some say they leak. And as far as the LT1, it is said to be harder to do, but I doubt it, depends on what accessories you plan to run on it, a/c etc....

Hedmans are *beep*. I\'ve had both, and sanderson\'s rule. I even had them coated, and they looked unbelievable. I was having a problem with them, and I just sent them back and they recoated them for free. The quality is great, and if you follow the directions, they won\'t leak.
If you wanna keep your truck a 5 speed, find a New venture 5 speed from a 90+ 4.3 truck or blazer. That would be the easiest. Or you could find a 700R4 automatic, and use a floor shifter. Do not use your current transmission.
An LT1 will require more work than a standard v8 swap. I used the stealth conversions v8 swap motor mounts, and I love them.

LT1S-10,
The LT1 will fit with no problems in the s10. If you are running A/C (and using camaro accessories) you will have to notch the frame to clear the a/c compressor.
I \"clearanced\" the firewall and set the engine back a inch and am using heddman headers.
There\'s a few pics on my
website (http://home.earthlink.net/~ccristo/). (I still haven\'t had time to upload more pics)

What are you going to do about the wiring harness. Did you get the engine compartment harness and computer and fuse box out of the carmaro? Hope so. Other wise i have seen these kinds of swaps go very wrong. You will have more hell than the man on the wrong train. Trust me. Do it right, I would try to get the entire harness out of the car that the Lt-1 came out of, and get it out in one peice. Then get your self a Chiltons that is specific for that camaro. So you can wire it correctly.

I do have the stock harness, but I am not using it, I have a howell harness. The truck runs, but I just can\'t seem to find the time to finish it up. I only need to wire up the fans and electric waterpump and get the exhaust made up before I can drive it.

Thanks for all the replys. Looks like I\'m going to go with a 4l60e tranny. I was told that even the truck 5-speed would not hold up if I drove it hard. (Going to be a 400hp motor)
I picked up a set of motor mounts and also got a set of Hedman Elite Hedders. They look pretty nice. They come with thicker flanges and are also coated.
As for the wiring harness I got one with the motor. Will still have to wire a few things to from it to the Truck but my buddy says it won\'t be that big of a deal.(He has put LT1s in a Jeep and also an older Camaro) But I do need to pick up a wiring diagram for a 94 S10. If someone has one I would Be greatful if you could E-mail me a copy.
I\'m sure I\'ll be asking few more questions before I\'m done with this so again thanks for all the help.
