S@#T hit the fan the other night. Here\'s what happened. Driving home from work the other night 2AM. Minding my own business and i drive by a cop. Of course he gets behind me and pulls me over. First thing i do is shut the truck off (he doesnt need to hear the 2 chamber 40 series flows) He comes over and makes a round around the truck. He askes whats that running under the hood? i told him an electric fan. luckily he didnt put 2+2 together. So he starts naming off things that are illegal. Here\'s the list. (what he could see) no rear bumper,no wipers, 3 bald tires, no front plate, supposily a defective drivers side mirror because about 1 inch of the gl is chipped off. so he comes back no ticket, but even worse a summons to court for operating an unsafe motor vehicle. and he tells me to leave the keys in the ignition, unlock the doors, and get out of the truck. they impounded it and did a \"forced inspection\"
the cop told me to find a ride home. i was so f@#%ing pissed!!! http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_mad.gif so the next day i go to the place that inspected it and here is thier list: no wipers, bumper, front plate, no catilac converters, carburated motor in a truck that used to be fueli (1991), bent idler arm (probably when they towed it) fuel cell mounted in bed, bald tires, lowering blocks, no reverse lights, no e-brake. i mean most of these things are my own fault because i just got the truck running but holy *beep*. e=what a night. it cost me $190 to get it back. dahm..
and a summons to court that could land me up to a $1000 fine and 6 months in jail. . http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_mad.gif http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_mad.gif

I guess ill have to scan my ticket and post it for you guys.We have easy laws here and this cop was from out of state and just moved here....this is what he TRIED to site me for, 350 in an S-10, which he called faulty equipment, and unsafe motor vehicle..Loud exhaust, he said that i needed to put on a set of glasspacks before my mufflers.......I have sweet sounding flowmaster 2 chambers coming out of longtubes, full 3\'\' and no cats. He said that a set of glasspacks would quiet it down. that would sound like *beep* i think, and not to mention be louder. But to make a long story short i got off of everything of course. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif

I guess you are lucky that cop doesn\'t know federal laws.... Federal EPA fine for altered emissions (i.e. no catalytic converter) is $2500 to $10000. I\'m glad most cops don\'t know this. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif

The only thing I have to do to dodge the emission laws here in Missouri is register my S-10 Blazer as a car. My friends dad is a Highway Patrol man and he said that\'d work!!

Just the fact that he pulled me over and walked around the truck would of been enough to set me off.
Up here with our emissions that just started the shops that check the vehicle are goverment issued shops and they have to meet their rules. If your vehicle passes it passes and you can show the cop your sheets.
A S10 with a v8 they put in a category of hotrod. They give it a sniff and send it out.
My bronco II passed with no cats and with a carburator on an 86.
I think they were just trying to be dinks and thats all.
Ive been pulled over in mine but the cops are more interested in looking at it and than hearing it drive away, I agree 2 chamber mufflers sound great.
Try and keep on truckin

So if you take your truck into emissions and they find out you\'re running a V8 it could be emissions tampering($2500-10000)??? Ouch, this is makin me scared but I want so bad to get my 350 in my truck. Maybe I can find some info for my state, I heard somewhere that if you use the same year engine setup then you\'re okay.

Im lucky, in florida we dont have any emissions checking yet. The California Smog Laws are the ones most states are trying to adapt. It states that the engine has to be of the same year or newer and if it is originaly equiped with fuel injection, then you cant put a carb on it. Plus it has to have all the smog crap like a canister and catalitic converters.

what if it\'s a crate engine? same top end plus the smog extras for that year? would they even notice? and how would this come about, say that it doesn\'t have to go through inspection, just emissions test... would they check under the hood or accuse you? I wouldn\'t be so worried, but when i pull up in a little 2wd S10 pickup and they hear the burble of a V8 coming from the pipes, they may get suspicious. i dunno, just curious because id hate to go up for a little emissions test and go home with a $10,000 fine just because of a little project...

i guess i got it pretty good up here in the cheese state. never had to do any type of emissions anything. Buy it, register it and drive it. The only thing i\'ve ever been bugged about was exhaust. If it doesn\'t have a converter on it, then ya don\'t need to have one. Doesn\'t matter if it came with one or not.

here in vegas they say if the vehicle was not optioned with a v8 it can\'t have one http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_mad.gif if it is older than \'75 you can have any engine on the planet as long as it passes smog.i look at it this way if it is able to pass the damn smog test it should be legal..my blaze is an \'88 4.3L ,auto, the engine is out of a \'94 1500 chevy p/u same emissions, egr,no smog pump, cat converter.big deal, it looks like the friggin 4.3 anyway, gets 22 mpg on freeway, way better than the 4.3. JTR says the federal government says this swap is legal,as long as you say(ENGINE SWAP) not (CONVERSION) it confuses them, imagine that..

wow do canadians have it good... no emissions at all... the cops just bug us for loudn exhaust and then they ask to see under the hood... just to droll and talk about it for about 10 minuits... ha ha, the rc\'s can be dicks though they can request a vehicle inspection, if something is faulty... bnut if it\'s faulty it should probably be fixed anyway, but they don\'t care about no cats or anything, just strait pipes if it has mufflers they leave you alone generally, so i guess we have it lucky in canada

I decided to copy this into this thread since it\'ll probably do the most good in here:
After reading through this thread, I started getting scared considering most of the cops around my area are power tripping dick heads and the fact that my truck is completely illegal (carbed, no cats etc.). So, I figured, when it comes to the system, there are usually ways around dumb laws. So, I did some research, and came up with a few interesting things. First of all NJ has one of the strictest emissions/inspections in the country. We\'re up there with Cali. NJ has something called \"collector vehicle\" registration. This applies to special interest/modified vehicles that are driven less than 3000 miles annually. If you get this type of registration YOU DO NOT NEED TO HAVE YOUR VEHICLE INSPECTED AT ALL! That\'s right, no cats, rear roll pan, modified/adjustable suspension, V8 SWAP - all legal. You need to get special collector vehicle insurance though, which in any case has got to be cheaper than the thousands of dollars in fines you can get for no cats. All you do is go get your odometer reading notarized every two years and as long as you\'re under 3000 miles a year, you pass! No emissions - nothing!
Now, for those of you who drive your trucks every day, or more than 3000 miles a year, I also found something called \"specialty vehicle\" registration. This is the catagory that kit cars fall under and it states the vehicle must be built with custom parts, or parts from other vehicles. Sounds like a V8 S10 to me. I didn\'t look into this one too much, but you do have to pass some sort of inspection - but is is much less strict than a standard inspection/emissions test.
If Jersey has stuff like this, I\'m sure other states have something like it too. Check it out for yourself and you could save yourself from getting into lots of trouble.
Hopefully, this\'ll help a lot of you guys. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif

I got stopped the first night I had my 355 in. Open headers, just went down the road with it, just my luck a statey had pulled someone over on my way back around. I keep going knowing he followed me and pulled in my driveway, he gets out and wanted to know what I had in it. He proceeded to tell me about a small block cj5 he has. Enough to scare the shit outta me. Let\'s see, open headers, no hood, no rear bumper, the list goes on. I guess here in redneck land (arkansas) they don\'t give a crap, I see countless cars and trucks everyday drive around with no fenders or doors with wide open exhaust, hell I even see probably 10 cars a day with no plates on them! Anyway I don\'t know about most states but where I lived in NH and where I live now there is a loophole in the catalytic converter law, My engine in my truck was originally a non-emission engine (74 Impala), therefore technically I dont have to have anything smog whatsoever, doesn\'t matter what kind of vehicle it\'s in. It\'s nice knowing people up at the DMV and in the courts http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif. I have to agree 40 series flows sound the best. Im dying to try to super 40\'s.

If I had an exemption with a limit on miles like your talking about in NJ, why not just unhook the odometer most of the time??? Run off the tach???
