Ok here\'s the deal, I just finished the swap in my truck and I took it out for the first ride and my brakes are shit!!! When I first start the truck it stalls and dies when I push in on the brake pedal then after a little bit of running it\'s ok, it also hisses inside the cab and it take\'s alot of effort to get this beast to stop almost like manual brakes, everything is new, everything was bleed, WTF. Oh by the way I took the little filter thingy off the vacuum line to the booster so all I have is hose coming from the intake to the booster?????

Um yeah, you\'ve got a vacuum problem on your brakes.

I think that little canister acts as a baffle, holding vacuum in, so i believe you need it.

I could be wrong though

Anyone else care to comment?

If its hissing in the cab and the pedal feels rock, than your booster is bad. The L valve that connets the hose directly to the booster is a one-way valve. The other one that is in line is a filter.

Pedal feels nornal, yeah it\'s hissing in the cab, the filter is gone and I also forgot to tell you that the booster was not all the way bolted down for this either, oppps! Would any of that effect this.

Th ebooster not being bolted all the way down to the fire-wall could cause a \"low-peddal\" fell. The master not being bolted to the booster could cause a low pedal, maybe even some hissing. Bu t it won creat

you need the check valve on the booster. if it is off you are creating a massive vacuum leak.

Check valve is there, filter is gone. Why does the engine die when I press the brakes.

I think the diaphragm is ruptured. You hot the breaks, bigger leak, too much air, not enough fuel, engine dies. had it before. I am sure the booster is bad.

UPDATE!!!!!

Took it for another illegal drive today, lol, and it still hisses inside the cab and brake feel like manual brakes so I get back to the house and get to looking and the bottom of the master cylinder is leaking. Will this cause the hissing I\'m hearing and the shitty breaking, I\'m sure it does but wanted to checkup????

Plug the friggin brake booster vac line and see if the problem still exists with the engine. If it doesnt, then like every one else said, change your booster.

If the master is leaking fluid. That is what killed the booster. Brake fluid got against the bladder. Thats why you here the hisssing in the cab.

Change both the master and the booster.

if its hissing then your booster is f**ked. the engine stalling is from the giant ass vacuum leak caused by the booster being f**ked. unplug the booster, plug off the booster, and plug off the vacuum line to the booster. start the truck and hit the brakes. if it dont die then its the booster, which is f**ked anyways because its hissing. next thing you wanna do is check that that little check valve is indeed working and only allowing air OUT of the booster. if you can blow both ways through it then its f**ked too. replace that.

if the master is leaking then yea, just like spacecadet said - change em both. make sure its all bolted down the right way and everything that was supposed to be there is there. this brings up another question. if both your master and booster are f**ked whats the rest of the system look like? id go over all your lines, hoses, connections and hardware before you go to the parts store. do some searching too. you can out a bigger master and booster on it...better brakes.

Hey man, new to the site. Just bought a blazer. Your brake booster needs that check valve- very important. It holds a constant vacuum in booster. Engine vac flucuates from idle to WOT. If the booster and master cyl. are not bolted down secure, pedal will not have full travel, no rear brakes and/or weak frt\'s. Brk fliud in the booster will soften the diaphram. This will make it rip. I have heard that hissing before and had the pedal working fine. It does not necessarily mean you have to replace the booster. If the noise bugs you , by all means replace it, it would me.

P.S. how does that v-8 feel :-D
