I\'m thinking of putting in a 350 in place of my 2.8 The stock tranny is a 5-speed. Is it possible to replace this w/ an auto tranny? If so how hard? Can i replace the stick w/a auto on the floor?

rip everything out that has to do with the 5 speed and cover the hole in the floor. i went with a b+m proshifter http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif

you should read the thread about 6\'\' or 9\'\' tail shaft....if you have the 2.8 with a 5 speed you would probably want the 9\'\' so you dont have to mod the driveshaft. I had the same 2.8 with a 5 speed and used the th350 auto tranny and had to make the driveshaft 3\'\' longer cause i used the short tail. but it still turned out good

what about a 2.8 5speed to a 700r4 when i do my swap? will the driveshaft be the right length?

should be, the trannies are the same length. another word of advice, put some heavy duty u joints on the driveshaft.

Very easy swap, take everything 5 speed related out, weld a plate over the hole in the floor and mount in a shifter.

I wouldn\'t count on any driveshaft working just right. Here is why. It really depends on how far back you set the motor. If you are going to race then you need the motor back as far as possible. sometimes with it back so far the stock driveshaft will have to be shortened.

Now if you don\'t care about where the motor is positioned, then adjust it to where the driveshaft will work and tighten it down. Just my penny worth. (im too poor to give 2)

I just did the 2.8 5 speed to a 700R4 swap with my conversion. The hardest thing for me was getting the cooling lines right. I trimmed the front of the transmission mount, elongated the hole and adjusted to make the driveshaft fit.

I had to do the trimming and elongating because if I moved the engine back far enough to keep the oil pan from rubbing the cross member, the front of the transmission mount hit the transmission pan and if I moved the engine forward enough to keep from hitting the transmission pan, the oil pan hit the cross member. I could have drilled and moved the mount back, but it\'s easier to cut the front off and elongate the hole. You can do it on a bench instead of working upside down under the truck (unless of course you have a lift).

I also swapped columns to the automatic column, removed the clutch pedal and swapped brake pedals and it all went smooth.

Also, wire tie or jump your clutch switch or it won\'t start with the key (took a week to figure that one out with the help of the folks on this site)

CRAP!!! i totally forgot about the cooler. how easy will my camaro radiator swap in? if its not easy ill just buy one from autozone or soemthing.

the mounts i ordered from this site said they had adjustment. so that should be all i need to do right? dont really care about raceing. just needed something other than the 2.8 piece of crap. lol

I was going to do the camaro radiator, but it looked like it would take too much cutting and jury rigging so I went with the corvette radiator.
