View Full Version : Back pressure
I know that a dual 3 inch exhaust isn\'t going to provide adequate backpressure on a stock 350, but can it actually damage any of the internals of the motor? I have a dual 3 inch stainless exhaust with race flowmasters and with side exit pipes that will come out in front of the rear wheels. I had it on my \'79 El Camino but that had a pretty worked 350 in it (which is now blown up). I\'m thinking about cutting the pipes off in front of the mufflers and running 2.5 inch from the headers into the mufflers (which are pretty far back) and then still running the 3 inch pipes out. The motor is probably going to be torn down and rebuilt over next winter, and recieve a cam and some other goodies, but even then I think the 2.5\'s will be better than 3\'s. That\'s only my opinion though. Any suggestions? Thanks.

2.5 \" that should be enough , going too big will actually hurt ur performace! But ur truck! do what makes u happy right!!?

2.5 would be best for back pressure and I would go with your idea too and keep the 3 behind the mufflers... I have some 5 inch tips off a semi truck that are going on mine... but they are only 20\" long and are way at the back with 2.5\'s all the way back

why not run a single 3\" all the way back... they are supposed to flow better than two 2 1/2\" pipes.... you don;t want too big or it will hurt your performance, a single 3 would be sweet also then it would only have a single exhaust tip (sleeper effect) my favorite sleeper is my caprice though it has a lt1 cuz it\'s a ex cop car =) i run 2 1/4 inch duals on my truck i also have a h pipe in it too thats the advantage of runnign a single 3 you\'ll actualy gain bottom end torque i thought of doing it

I ran 2.5\'s to a 3\" which goes through my highflo cat and muffler were it heads back out in two 2.5 tips that are just behind my rear bumper giving a sleeper effect until you gun it its a nice quite setup at idle too.. until you start driving it!
