Im looking for a 5 speed tranny that I can use with a 327 that I would like to put in my 84 S10.
I currently have a 14 spline T5. Is it possible to make thist ranny work with my 327? What would it take?
Is this a weak tranny? Anything I can do to make it stronger?

if youre not making shitloads of power then go with a t5. itll handle a stock to mild 350, just make sure you go with a later model t5. the earlier ones dont handle more than like 275 - 300 lbs. the 14 spline trans you have now is for a v6, you can get a special clutch for it but the v6 tranny wont last too long behind the v8. what you can do if you wanna keep your stock shifter location is get a v8 camaro t5 and put the top and tailshaft off of the s10 t5 onto the camaro box.
the camaro trans has a 27 spline input versus the 14 you have now. to answer your 2 questions: yes, and get rid of it
the other option you have is to go with a new venture trans.

Say for availability reasons I were to go with Muncie 4 speed tranny out of a early 80\'s K20 4x4. Any pluses minuses for this tranny?

So basically its a good strip tranny? aslo it has a Granny low first gear. Is it like this on all mucnie 4 speeds?

no. you can get close ratio or wide ratio boxes. personally, i dont think youd be happy with a granny gear. technically then all you have is 3 gears. the granny gear is for pulling stumps and shit. you cant use a granny gear for racing.

Would it be hard to gear it differently ?

itll be a pain in the ass. if you havnt bought one yet then why spend the cash to buy one and then more cash to re-gear it. just get one geared the way you want it. are you using this truck as a daily driver? or is it gonna see more strip time than road time?

I have the Muncie 4 speed with granny low sitting around not being used.
I plan on using the truck for street performance with occasional strip use. I generally beat on things prett bad though no matter if im cruising around with friends or at the track.

id get a 5 speed then. regardless, the granny gear really does you no good. go with a 3500 or a later model t5 if you want stick.

Getting slightly confused...is your truck going to be a 4wd or a 2wd????
But to answer the first questions. Yes the 14spline t-5 is a weak tranny. It will handle some work but won\'t handle too much abuse. it isn\'t the gears that are weak, it is the case that is weak. The case holds everything together. The excesive amount of power can force the teeth to spread alittle, wear then grind and eventully the teeth will shatter.
I speak from experiance. I use the 14spline t-4/5 trannys. Overall without dumping the clutch they hold up well. But, under a severe load or duumping the clutch thier days are numberd. The 27splin is supposed to be a little stronger though. The nv3500 is far the best unit you could \"bolt in\" If you wanted to do some fabrication you could make a 70\'s camro muncie or t-10 work or even a saginaw. THey are all strong trannys.
Space.

The muncie is out of a 4x4... would I not be able to put it in the S10 ? My S10 is 2 wheel drive.

no. tailshafts are totally different. space is right with what hes sayin about the trannys. youll be thanking yourself if you get an overdrive trans. mark my words.

am I reading this right, a Borg Warner t5 out of a 2.8V6 would handle a 350? Riot police , that is great news for me too as I can keep a 5 speed tranny and not have to go auto..

for all intents and purpuoses. NO it WILL NOT. it can be made to work but its expensive. you need a special clutch with a 14 spline input thatll fit a smallblock. the clutch itself is like $300 last i knew. if i remember right youll need a special bellhousing too.
taken directly form the advanced adapters comversion page: \"The T5\'s equipped in these vehicles are not recommended for bolting up to the Chevy V6 or V8; however, we do carry a bellhousing for customers that wish to retain this transmissin in 1984 and newer vehicles. 2WD vehicles should never retain this 5 speed....\"
for the money youre gonna throw down to make it work and then have your chances greatly increased that its gonna blow up make it not worth it. what yall can do is get a t5 out of a camaro, then take the tail shaft and top cover off the s10 t5 and bolt them onto your camaro t5. that way you have a t5 that bolts up to a v8, uses stock v8 parts and the shifter is still in the original location. or cut a new hole for the shifter location and use the camaro transmission as is. thats what i did.
now, you have one of 2 things you can do. either take the whole s10 trans and put it on ebay for $250. or take the s10 box, bolt the camaro tail on it and sell a v6 camaro trans on ebay for $250.
