ok, im not sure if this idea i have will work, but i want to try..... is it possible to put a 327 crank in the 305? i plan on boring it over to 4 inches (same bore as the 302/327/350) and making her a 327..... yeah, jsut boring it to 350 (one of my friends is a licenced machinist, and can do the work for me) would probly make more sense, but i tend to do alot of things that dont make sense..... that and i kinda want to have a slightly mor uncommon engine than a 305 or 350..... any ideas where i can get the crank (only place ive found is ebay, and id rather have a brand new crank over a used one)
thanks guys!

A 305? or do you mean a 307? Because a 305 already has the same stroke as a 350 crank, and a tiny little bore, smaller than a 265, no way it can be bored to anything close to 4.0\".
....... And a 307 has the same stroke as a 327, and the bore of a 283.
OK, I found this at Mortec.........

it is not possible to bore a 305 out that far....you\'re messing with danger there.would come to be like a 260-262 cubic inches standard bore

I\'f you want to build a 327, get a 69/70 327 crank and put it in a 350. That might be a bit eaiser. Chances are you will have to get a crank reman. or used and have it trued.
If I were to play the numbers game I would build the 302. With its bore & stroke, ...wow that thing could hit some serious rpms!!!
i see alot wrong here...first is that a 327 is the same bore as a 350. 305 is the same stroke as a 350. I agree with spaced. if you want a 327 get a 350 block and a 3.25 crank. voila 327. 302s were cool back in the day but i wouldnt want to give up the cubic inches nowadays. sure you can zing it to 8500 but a 350 done made more power at 6500 and shifted a gear and is pulling away.

You would have to have custom set of pistons made with the same pin height as a 327 piston. If you use a 305 piston you will have piston to deck clearance of about .250 or about 5:1 compression if even that. It would idle but it would only have enough power to turn the alternator, anything else you\'d snub her.

And if you use a 350 block you need a 327 crank AND 327 pistons.

Good luck finding a large journal 327 crank. Them are precious items now days. You will pay good money for one.
You simply can not bore a 305 out to 4\" like a 350, unless you want a steam engine. You will hit water jackets.
It gets tricky when you start playing with bore and stroke combinations in the lower displacments. The main reason people do it is for some type of speed record in a certain class. They come up with strange combos to fit the displacment of the class they want to run. 8500 rpm is good when you are going for land speed records, but not much else.
For the typical guy, stick with an original 327 setup if you are set on a 327. It will be a lot cheaper and reliable.
