I went to all the local junk yards today looking for an 8.5 inch 10 bolt out of a mid 90\'s s-10. Only two junk yards had them, and the cheapest price out of the two was $550. In other words I won\'t be getting one any time soon. I have too much other stuff to do on the truck. I don\'t want to run a ford or mopar rear, so is there any other GM rear options from 8.5 inch and up that are about the same width? I will probably run the 7.5 around for a little while once it is together but I\'m not going to trust it which means that I really won\'t nail the gas, and I\'m not building the truck so that I have to be a wuss behind the wheel. If there are no other options, then when I get the truck together I\'m going to have my GM 14 bolt narrowed to fit and have custom axles made etc. I don\'t want to run anything other than a GM rear. If there are any other options let me know. Thanks.

Hey Zack do you have a 2wd or a 4wd? I just looked on carpart.com and found them in Miichican for around $275 plus shipping. Put all your info in and you\'ll find parts all over the country. I work in a salvage yard and sell parts. So I am on line all day. Hope this helps.

why not run the 7 5/8 or a 7 1/2 i have been running my 7 5/8 witch s a little stronger than the 7 1/2 for over ayear with the v8 now, and beleive me i\'m no wuss behind the wheel, how much power do you have i have just shy of 400 hp and i\'m not afraid to step on it, if i had traction that would be a different story, the only way your gunna break anything is if you have gobs of traction, running a 11\" slick at the track i still havn\'t broke it yet, the week link in them is the spiders, or if it\'s a limided slip the limided slip always explodes cuz they suck, look for a clutch type posi or do like me, get a open 7 5/8\" rear and put a mini spool in it (despite what people say it\'s not that bad on the street, and very predictable because it always does the same thing, i\'ll be putting in my richmond 4.11 gears in the spring too, it should handle quite a bit of power my freind runs one in his trans am that was running mid 12\'s with a 3500 stall and a stroker with 12\" slicks he pulls the wheels and it hasn\'t broke yet it won\'t break unless your planning on breaking into the 11\'s i don\'t think you should have to worry about the diff givin out any time soon, it may not last 5 years or anything but it\'ll hold up untill you have the money to get a 8.5

Thanks. I only have a 7.5 inch rear in the S-10 now. I\'ve always bee told that the 7.5\'s were junk and the smallest rear that was pretty good was the 8.5 but if you guys say that the 7.5 will hold up for a while, then I\'m not going to worry about it. I\'m not going to set the suspension up to hook coming full throttle off the line until I get the work done to my 14 bolt, but until then, if you guys say the 7.5 will work then I\'ll beat the hell out of it. The 350 that I\'m putting is probably only making about 250 or so horse. It has a basically stock truck cam, a Weiland aluminum high rise intake, an edelbrock carb, and will have headers and a Mallory coil. In the chiltons manual I think they rated it at 230 horse when it was stock at the tailshaft of the trans. Any ideas on what it will be making now? Thanks for the advise.

Not to say anything bad. But I am also a big GM fan and don\'t like fords too much but I do have to say that Ford did build a very very good rear end when they made the 9\".

well when my dad built the truck that is now mine he did a suspension lift and ran 31\" tire with a 305, well i switched to a 350 sfter geting and guess around 275 horses and the 7.5 thats in my truck is still hanging in there. ans i drive this thing hard.on and off road.

so im not planning on changing the rear until after i do the sfa conversion.

I\'m curious to know how many of you guys running mini spools on the street have checked them out since putting it in. I say this because I ran mine for 6 months on the street and I decided to take it out because it chewed my tires to shit. When taking it out I noticed that it had movement side to side and when it was completely out it was bent from turning corners.

hey, why mess with those mini spols, why dont you just weld up the spyders, that would work find and you wouldnt have to mes with the min spool, and hey, you want a gfreat axel to run but wont break, run a toyota reae end, you have to move the spring pad\'s in about an inch but you wont break it, it has the removeable 3rd member and you can get great gears cheep, you can get 4.37 from the factory and bigger arr arround uf you want them, the axles are huge too

well i have done some research on this rear end you have(14-bolt) it was offered by gm in the 454 type p/u,you should have a limited slip with either 3.73s or 4.10s if it\'s from an ss-454 truck,do what you want to do,by the way what kind of torque is your engine layin down,i hear people talk about horsepower, thats later,tq is now on the launch.
