do late-first gen s-dimes have rev limiters? (specifically 2.8)

my shift light comes on @ 5500, but i\'ve run it to 6000 a couple times. (drop-clutch burnout, 3-4 powershift and yesterday for kicks) http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif

is 5500 my redline?

My 1989 with a stock 2.8L didn\'t have a rev limiter. Realized it after I missed a 2 - 3 shift, OOUCH!

I believe the shift light is set to come on at the \"optimum\" shift point for the best gas milage. The way you are driving will determine when the shift light comes on. Drive hard and it comes on later, drive with light pedal pressure and it comes on sooner. The light has nothing to do with your red line, just where you should shift for best fuel milage based on the position the gas pedal and the load on the vehicle at that given point.

no it dosent. besides, you have a stick. you tell it when to shift. it dont tell you when to shift.

The shift light is different than a rev limiter. A rev limiter will either cut out fuel or spark after a desinagted rpm.

The shift light will light when the computer thinks the vehicle should be shifted.

I don\'t think any factory s-series came with limiters did they? I know later models are speed limited, but I dont think any have a rev limiter.

heh, I didnt think a 2.8 could barely spin itself to 5000

and some of the newest ones do have rev limiters im sure. A boy I used to work with had a 2000 4cylinder. He would pull into work sometimes through it into park and hold it to the floor. You could tell it was limited somehow. and yeah he is retarded.
