the dowel pin on the front of the cam will havew to be trimmed down flush with the cam sprocket. idle will be smooth if it is a stock cam. this is a roller cam and stiffer springs are required if you do not originally have a roller cam in you original motor.

Is the bolt pattern on the fron the same? I thought it was smaller because of the step nose. Never really checked, might be the same.

no problem instal with a roller block, cutting the dowel pin is too messy you should take a center punch and tap it with a small hammer roughly.030 to make sure it is in far enough take the timing sprocket and place it on the cam nose and tap the pin flush http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif

its a roller block already. so the stock springs will work? the dowel pin is the least of my worries. ill figure that out. whats this about a different bolt pattern?

If you have roller cam already you will have no problems except for the longer dowel. If it isnt roller you may need a different timing set as well as the front retainer and other roller cam parts.

the dowel will hit the timing cover if it is not trimmed or tapped into the cam some. if your original cam is a roller then it will have the step nose and a retaining plate already. should be a simple swap.

if the 305 has already a roller cam in it (not just a roller block) then springs, timing chain, and lifters will be fine. all you will need is to file down the dowel as mentioned. you will need a power programmer since you are F.I. if the block is a roller block but dont have a roller cam you will need a new timing chain. the holes are drilled in a tighter base for the step in the nose. you will need the plate that holds the cam in. and it has to be for a 305 they are not interchangable. the mounting holes are different between the 305/350. you will need new springs, you will need new lifters, the keepers for the lifters and a hold down spyder. and you will still need a power programmer because no matter what you are still F.I. hope this answers your questions.
