has anyone uesd a EAGLE brand 383 chevy cast crankshaft? did you have to get it balanced? are they prone to breakage? they say it uses stock bearings and does not rquire balanacing but just wanted to get some user feedback from someone who used one .

i personally havent used one but know a few folks who are running the eagle cranks with no problems. Any rotating assembly will need balancing, ubless you buy a complete rotating assembly thats already been balanced.

Maybe the \"does not require balancing\" is in reference to external balancing, that is, flywheel & balancer. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif

\'cause like RayL said, it should be balanced as an entire rotating assembly. How would they know what rods & pistons you were going to use, right?

they say the bobweight is 1855 grams , that should be the weight of the piston,rings,bearings,ect.. that bolts to the rod throw? also says it uses a 400 flywheel and balancer.

That IS interesting. So if you can find the right weight combo of rod & piston..... you\'re good to go. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif Just don\'t hack too much off the pistons.... http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif (just joking.....)

All cranks have a bobweight. If you are not buying it as a kit, then you need to shop for the right parts to get your bobweight to match the crank. I wouldn\'t skip the balancing though. Most parts are plus or minus 2%. So if you have 200 gram pistons, They could all be 204 grams. That puts you 32 grams over already. You could weigh each part and match the bobweight of the crank exact. This would require several sets of pistons to find 8 that are just right and same with rods and the rest. It is easier to get it balanced though.

I run the external balance eagle crank (requires 400 balancer and flexplate) and have had good luck with it. I use eagle rods and wiesco pistons. I did have it balanced.
