pardon my language, but fema really has pissed me off. for hurricane katrina, my family evacuated to northwest louisiana. we stayed there for almost a week, and after, bounced around friends and relitives homes for 3 weeks untill the debris around my trailer was cleared and the power was restored. i aplied for disaster assistance from fema (evacuation assistance, home damages- window in bathroom blew out and my floor, walls, everything in there was destroyed, all the insulation under my trailer blew off-spotted). i finally had a fema inspector check out my home 1 month ago. i had started to make some repairs on my own, out of my pocket- using some bill money that should of when to pay my credit cards, and i just recieved a letter from fema today stating that i don\'t qualify for any assistance! it said that i had insuffeciant damages! WTF!!! i called the fema 800 # to ask someone over the phone, and they said that all i could do is try to appeal. but i don\'t have all my reciepts anymore, so i probable still would get turned down again. damn i hate the government. they are nothing but crooked, fill their own pocket politicians who don\'t care about the poor, only the rich!!! sorry guys, just venting a small piece of my anger. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/s19.gif http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/s19.gif http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/s19.gif http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_evil.gif http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_frown.gif

Yeah, that sucks.
..... If it\'s any consolation, chances are if you got any \"assistance\" or \"relief\", it would probably just be a loan, not a grant. Not that I know this for sure, but knowing how the government works, that\'s probably what it\'d be.

no its yours free and clear. my brother in law got a $10,000 check from them for his roof and other MAJOR damages. his insurance took care of the rest of his house. and he said the other day it didnt effect his taxes either.

it does suck! right now my bathroom is still underconsruction. i guess i\'ll have to work a little off my paycheck eack week. i \" heard\" of other people scamming fema with no damages, and getting assistance, here i am with actual damages and i get turned down for assistance. i think i finnaly lost all respect for the government we have! but don\'t worry, i won\'t be wearing a diaper on my head or any of that stuff!

Good honest hard working people always get the shaft. If your a scammer, an ass kisser, a brown noser or a fxxxing dxxk head then you will always get what you want.
Atleast that is how I have interpetted this country for the last 35 years.
A friend is on pubic assistance. ie welfare. She plunked out 5 kids, from 5 differnt fathers, collects between 1 and 2 hunderd per week per kid, plus gets 1000 month cash, 3 bdroom house paid for + and 500 foodstamps. stays home watchs kids and TV.
She makes more than me and does NOTHING!!!
Your situation doesn\'t suprise me. Sorry. Nice guys finish last. The goverment is going to stick it to whom ever will take it nicely!
Space. Spaced, Lost is space. Spaced out and never returned?
That was my 2 cents.

Yep, so whats wrong with THIS picture, right? I think the key to getting aid is to act STUPID. Actually BEING stupid can help also. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif But a certain kind of stupid...
.......... Case in point: I\'ve got a friend who is certifiably stupid. Nice guy, but just plain dumb. But he is NOT lazy. When he wants something, he is tenacious. He simply wears people down, asking the same (stupid) questions over, and over, and over. He just won\'t give up. I know, he does it with me. Befaore he\'ll buy a set of tires, he\'ll ask me at least 20 times for my opinion...... http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_mad.gif http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_cool.gif Makes me crazy.
......... He has somehow managed to get full (lifetime) disability, when his only problem is being overweight.... I\'m sure he just simply wore those folks down with his constant pestering.
........... He owns 3 rental properties plus his own home. Stupid you say? Yes, he truly is stupid... but TENACIOUS.
........... If you\'re a salesman, and you see him coming, I\'d suggest a you hide quickly, or risk suicide. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif
I have been working on what should be the insurance company I\'ve been paying to for the last 16 yrs. Thats the guys I figured would be there. I did get 2500 when we evac to Ark. That did come in handy doing temp repairs while I got a handle on the chaos. I kept the wife and little one in ARK for 3 weeks till I got the house liveable again. I called FEMA the day after the storm and registered. I think that helped. But FEMA/goverment are like swiss cheese, its a hit and miss. I have seen some things that made my head spin. I don\'t know how much I can do, katrina has really taken a toll on my family, but neighbors can help each other. One thing I learned from the folks up in Crossett,ARK, their help and kindness really got us through the most diffcult time I have had to date.

heres one for you all. my grandfather works for a company that does assistance for needy familys thru the goverment. if you really need it I feel it is ok to get assistance but the person getting assistance should put forth some effort and at least work, on the other hand there are so many people who are getting everything for free from what he tells me, if your an illegal imigrant and have 1 or more kids and are single or married as long as one of the kids were born here in the us that kid is now an american citizen but since the mother or father is an illegal immigrant they technically are not allowed to work in the U.S. so the goverment pays for everything. food, rent, everything.

I love all the people staying on the beach in Florida or Downtown NY for $400 a day for months now.
I truly feel for people who lost everything, but sometimes you have to pick up the pieces yourself and do what you can.
To the original poster- Sorry to hear about your misfortune. It is a shame that they are only focusing on the poor or the people from New Orleans. many middle class people also lost evrything, but I guess it isnt news becuase they are on TV evry 9 seconds.
Good luck to you, I hope it all works out.
FEMA is a reflection of the Republican party. People need to vote! The Poor Needs to Vote! They think the working man is to dump to Vote! You will die a old man with no health insurance if people do not vote out the \"out of touch\", living in another world Republicans. Maybe we just need a good Independant to run for the next term. Someone that is real. Think about it. If people are dying, do you wait before you send help? And do you hand out money to people that do not live in that area? It\'s just Common sence..

I agree with lin above, sometimes I think we would be better off with a construction worker who has worked his ass off all his life and let him run the country. F bush, my girlfriend is over in iraq getting shot at every day for nothing, and this shit you see on tv where all he soldiers are saying \"we are here for a purpose\" she says that is horseshit, she says maby 5 percent of them say that the rest of them want to pack up and come home, and think they are risking their life for nothing, things are not getting better there she says they are getting worse, since all the elections, why because the damn iraq people wont stand up for them self and let the US soldiers take the car bomb while they run home to their huts,

If that bastard we have for a president wasnt busy lining his pockets with war profits those wasted billions could be rebuilding things in this country.I say impeach the FOCKER or send him to the front lines(if someone on our side shoots him I will donate for bond or lawyer http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif ).Bring the soldiers home and let them feel really good about helping our country rebuild, quit sending ANY money overseas until the day there is no one homeless, hungry,or without medical coverage here.Oh shit what am I saying HELP US BEFORE YOU HELP THE PEOPLE WHO HATE US !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_cool.gif.Sorry I sort of got off the subject.I have donated money and food and wish I lived close enough to help with labor.Everyone is pointing fingers as to who to blame for this(me included)GOD sent the storms trying to teach us to help oneanother now that needs to happen

I work with a lady who\'s daughter lives in New Orleans. She recieved $2400.00 checks for 4 months and got a call wanting to know where she wanted her trailer delivered and the only damage to her house was the loss of 4 shingles. Go figure!

Hurricane Isabel flooded my parents home in 2003. Power was out for ten days and they had over $50K in damages. FEMA swung by and paid for half the cost of the generator. A year later they demanded duplicate evidence of the generator purchase or we\'d be liable for refunding the money. I sent in the receipt (again) and told them to come pick it up and give it to some other family.
