you are correct, swap the flexplate for a flywheel and don\'t forget to make sure it has that little end bushing in the middle

now remind me, the bushing goes into the crankshaft? or the flywheel? if it goes into the crank will i have to swap the cranks out? Or are they they same from auto to stick?

There is a bronze bushing pressed into the end of the crankshaft. The crank will have the whole for the bushing even if it is an automatic just won\'t have a bushing in it. Just pick up a bushing at your local parts store. There is also a roller bearing pilot bushing available if you want to spend the extra cash.

the pilot bushing goes into the end of the crank. id recommend going out and getting a new one for a tight fit. i would say that all cranks have a hole for them just the autos wont have a bushing in it

just a flywheel instead of a flexplate and that pilot bushing that goes in the end of the crank

If the silverado is a newer truck, like 87-98 ish? then you can reuse your flywheel, and clutch from your 4.3. Just bolt on and go.

I would take a good look at your clutch, and if its got some miles on it, might as well replace it now. IF you do, make sure to resurface your flywheel, and ALWAYS get a new throw out bearing. Dont forget your pilot bearing like Kevin said too.

Just to specify, the pilot bearing goes in the back of the crank.

Techhead, you\'ll need a flywheel to match your motor. Unless it was custom balanced or something, just about any sbc with the 2 peice rms one should work Id think.

Flywheel, clutch, throw out bearing, pilot bearing, clutch fork, of course your hydrualics, and if you wanted the little dust sheild thing. That always got in the way when I was doing shit, it never got reinstalled on any of mine.

what if its an older block? i just ended up buying a flywheel from an 85 camaro. 80 bucks, alittle more than resurfacing but ehh it was new.

You gotta match your flywheel to your motor/crank. then your clutch to that.

Its gonna depend on what motor you have, and what was in the 85 camaro.

No problem man. I think most any from a 2 peice rms should work. So my knowledge, they were all balanced the same until 1986 with the 1 peice rms.

Less the 400 sbc. Just dont get one from a 400.

Let me know how much trouble you get into switching your pedals. I am considering doing the same swap. My donor truck is a 90 model longbed with a 4.3 auto. I have a 305 with a five speed from a 89 camaro I wanted to put in but I might just go with the auto because it works fine and it would be a lot less hassle than hooking up a clutch and switching out the pedals and steering column. ... Hey Leggman, luck for me the donar truck is a standard so I do not need to convert any pedals. I have read posts about hooking up or removing a clutch pedal and it did not seem to be too difficult.. Just get the pedals from your local junk yard, and replace the ones your got..
