Anybody switch over to braided S.S. power steering lines? I\'m putting my power steering back on. I ordered a chrome pump from Summit and I need to order the fittings. BTW, I don\'t have my old lines, so not sure of the sizes. The new Summit pump has a 5/8\" fitting. I\'m not sure of the the sizes on the P.S. gearbox. My truck is an 82\'
Anybody know what size adapter fittings to order?

probably the first thing you are going to have to do is change the fitting on the back of the pump where the pressure line goes in. The one you ordered from summit uses a standard thread fitting and your gearbox is a metric fitting. If you take the fitting out of your old pump, you can put it in your new one and then you will have metric fittings on both the pump and the gearbox. That will make it easier to get a line.

Just done mine with stainless hose.Got all the stuff for about 75 bucks from Speedway Motors. First you\'ll have to get the adapters for the AN line.My steering box had the o-ring fittings, as did my pump. The box requires one 16mm and one 18mm adapter, the pump takes one 16mm. The hose they suggest is 6AN. Mine took (2) 6AN 90\'s for the box, and a 45 for the pump fitting. The only problem I had is the TFE hose they have for power steering use will not slide over the return line coming off the pump. So, I had to splice a piece of rubber hose into the line. After talking to their streetrod tech, he said that the regular braided line they have will withstand the pressure, so if I were doing it again I would go that route instead. Sorry I dont have any pics yet, but if I can help just let me know...Sinner

Thanks guys for your responses. I\'m clear everything except for the pump fitting.
Is it neccesary to change to pump fitting to metric? Because the adapters converts the hose to -6AN, so if you mix them (met & standard) you just have order the correct fitting.
I\'m just asking because my old pump has an O ring fitting (metric I think) & the new pump has the 5/8\" flare.

I guess as long as you have enough room for the extra adapters, you should be fine doing it that way.

Summit sells metric adapters for power steering pump connections.

Those pump fittings are interchangable. I took the flare out of mine and switched it with an o-ring..
