So I started to work on my s10 yesterday. Put a mini starter on it and it fired right up after I primed the carb. But then it started leaking coolant from the most inconvenient spot. Turns out over the winter it popped the freeze plugs and guess where two of them are located. Right behind the motor mount. Thanks for that wonderfull design Chevrolet, now I have to pull the F@ckin engine. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_mad.gif

I guess you should just be grateful it was only the plug.
......... I got an engine REAL cheap once...... it was a brand new factory 365 HP 327 with a busted block. The guy had it in a heated garage, water in the block. pushed it outside in the middle of winter without thinking. Opps! Split the side out of the block.
......... He bought a brand new bare block, to fix it, got sick of it, got the whole mees cheap. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif
Another time, had a core plug rot out behind the flywheel on my ol\' 348.... at least the engine didn\'t have to come out, just the trans. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif

I know I should have used antifreeze I parked it in the summer and didnt even think of it. But I lucked out today because I was able to get to them by Removing the bolts and jacking the engine up be the oil pan.

you should run anti freeze all year round. it cools better. some people say that water wetter stuf works too but ive never tried it the right way to make it work.

core plugs arn\'t designed to pop out when the block freezes. there sole purpose is to get all the sand out of the casting when they are made.

That may not be the original design for them, but is a 50/50 chance they will save a block. If Danksta\'s motor didn\'t have soft plugs, it would have cracked. Consider it a bonus.

yes, a bonus. i guess im just sour about using that word cause the drilled it into use that they arn\'t designed to pop out when the block freezes. whenever we would say the word freeze plug my instructor would fly off his rocker. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif
