I have a line on an old late 70s early 80s chevy full size that is completely rusted out but has a good 6.2L diesel and good 4x4 running chassis.
My question is, would this engine/tranny be difficult to mate to the stock transfer case and mainly, would the engine fit? I am not scared of getting dirty and working long hours on it but I do not want to get into something that just is not going to work. I know that I will have to change the entire fuel system and the electrical as well.
The truck it would be going into would be either an 86 s-10 blazer or 83 s-15 pickup, both 4x4.

i may be wrong but im under the impression that the external dimensions of the 6.2\'s are similar to the sbc. not really sure though.

when i get home tonight, ill post a link to the one on s10forum............ i have it bookmarked....... on the other hand, why not just go and take the whole chassis form the truck (unless its screwed) and swap it under the body of an s10 pickup? then that way you have teh solid front axles good t-case and other goodies? heres a link to somebody on here who did that..... with a 3/4 ton suburban chassis...

I wouldnt think that a s10 body would fit on a full size rolling chassis.
The body of this full size is completely rusted, including the dash, nearly undrivable. The upside is that its free if I want it.

my buddy had an s10 body on a fullsize blazer frame. my only issue with it was that it was hacked together. im not sure that there is any \"right\" way to do it.

Run away from the 6.2L, that motor has absolutly no power. Even adding a turbo doesn\'t do any good. They are not worth spending any money on. The fuel mileage is terible and they are lucky to out run the parts falling off them. You are better off with a big block, moe power and better mileage than an old 6.2L

Military spec 6.2\'s are J code models pushing 150 hp. That\'s respectable. Their fuel mileage might not be great, but it\'s easily better than a 350 - easily pushing 20-25. Maybe more on something as light as an S10 if geared properly. All of that torque is sitting there at low rpms, the engine should push around a small truck VERY well at idle.. It\'s not a Cummins, but as a light duty diesel - it should do quite well. They\'ve been pushing around step vans and Humvees for a long time now.
Parts falling off? No more than any other GM product! They may be lightweight diesels, but that still puts them more solid than the gas motors!!! Maybe you are thinking of the old 5.7 liter diesels... Your comments applied to them would be on the money!
Did anybody ever push this idea to completion?
