I found out my speedo cable is sheered. I have an \'87 dash. Will a \'87 replacement cable do the trick? Do I have to take the dash out to swap it out of the speedo?

i was going to buy that truck. glad i didnt now. you can use the 87 cable. and it can be done without removing the dash but that would be the best thing to do.

get under the truck, unscrew the cable from the speedo housing. DO NOT take the housing out of the trans unless you wanna take a bath in dex III. the cable is held up to the body by a little clip, take it out of the clip. go into the truck with a philips head screwdriver, a 10mm socket, a 13 mm socket, a large extension and a ratchet. put the steering wheel as low as it will go and remove the tilt wheel rod. take the screws out of the panel for the headlights and the HVAC controls, remove both from the dash. take the 4 screws out of the bottom of the trim piece that goes around the cluster. take the 10mm socket with the extension and take off the 4 nuts that hold te rest of the trim piece in place, remoe the trim piece. switch to the 13mm and remve the last 4 nuts that hold the cluster in. push the little clip in and pull the cable out of the back of the cluster. go under the hood and find the cable. theres a grommet below and to the left of the booster. pull the cable out.
have a good time puttin the cable back up into the dash. i just did this last week. my cable leaned up against the collector and got melted in half.
