Just tonight i noticed while i was waiting in the parking lot for my bro t oget off work that my voltage gauge was showing only about 10-11 volts.

No i had a problem earlier with the fuse blowing for the ignition and guages which also affected the alternator. so thats the first thing i check but its still good. Also i can smell something, like a wire is getting very hot.

Anyone have any suggestions asto where to look first cause we have been getting dump on with snow the last week. So the front bumper of my truck and the fron suspension is just packed with snow if that matters.

but i dont want to spend forvever outside looking for problems cause its very snowy outside.

Hrmm depends on what kind of alt you have does it have a power wire and a charge wire or does it have a power wire regulator wire and charge wire... if its the later check your regulator wire if that grounds out or disconnect from the batter the alt will stop charging.. if its the first try applying 12 volts and seeing if it fixes the problem while the engine is running if it doesn\'t you have a bad regulator and your alt is scrap. if it works theres a problem somewere in your circuit.

i have the same problem with my truck, check all your starter wires and maybe the starter itself. I had a wire that would hit the header everynow an then, if it got hot enough to melt the coating then it could arc out and blow a fuse. Just something to check.

im sorta ruling out the starter and wires cause i can turn the truck off and start it again so its not grounding out. but i will check the alt. i just dont want to spend forvever checking every wire if there are some that are prone to problmes cause its cold and snowy outside.

well i didnt check anything but this morning i went and started my truck and its been fine. voltage is at 14 volts and truck runs good.

Im thinking i might replace all of the wiring and stuff in the summer cause this wirining harness has seen better days.

Might be a good idea =)
