i recently put a rebuilt 700r in my truck but when i put it in i never took the torque convertor off the flywheel so it never got pushed all the way into the trans when i crunk it it made a horrible grinding noise i left it running and looked under the truck to figure out what it was then it hit me that i never pushed the torque convertor in or lined it to the pump so should i take the motor and tran back out to check if i messed it up or try to push it all the way in form under the truck and see what happens thanx alot for any input

To avoid more possible damage--- i would pull the trans.

At the very least, you\'re going to have to loosen the trans from the engine and unbolt the convertor from the flexplate. If the convertor isn\'t too fubar, it should push into the trans.

You may have damaged the seal or the splines. If you\'re lucky, it\'ll pop in (and not leak) and you\'ll be on your way.

take out the trans and the convertor. with it out inspect the splines, the convertor, pump seal and pump to make sure nothing is stripped or shredded. also inspect the flex plate to make sure you did not cracke it when you put it in a bind.

thanx for the input. Am i the only person who has to pull the motor and trans out to get the trans out or what?

Nope, not just you. I bought my truck with the motor in it, but wanted to change cams and put a new rear main in. My buddy that was helping me thought we should pull the tranny first. So that\'s what we tried to do - for like 5 hours. Better than 2 hours was spent on the last bolt. We had taken the motor mounts off to drop the engine lower, moved it forward as far as possible, and used about everything we possibly could to try to get at it when we were taking a break and eating some pizza and I said \"Do you think that offset distributor wrench would get to that thing?\" Sure enough, turning one tooth at a time, we got that baby out of there. Never again, though - it comes out with the motor next time.

Some guys will pull back the carpet and cut a couple of holes in the floor so they can get to those bolts. Then just cut some aluminum to cover the holes and sheet metal screw it into place.

Good luck.
