Thinking of buying a 1996 Dodge full size van for the family. The van is in great shape inside and out. We have known the lady for sometime now, so we feel we can trust her. The problem that i can\'t figure out is: She says the van runs fine until the fuel gets to 1/2 tank or less. She says the fuel pump was replaced to try and fix the problem but it did not solve it. I am at odds trying to figure this problem out before i decide to purchase the vehicle. Any ideas from y\'all would be helpful. thanks http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif

Sorry, i forgot to mention that she says that it\'s almost like it is sucking fuel through a straw with a hole in it. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif

Seen this happen a few times with the dodges. What happens is the strainer on the end of the pump gets old and full of trash. So the pump pretty much sucks the bottom of the strainer up against the pickup thus killing flow. You wont notice ths until half a tank cause the pump is mounted on the module, basically a can type thingy the has the pump mounted down in the bottom. gas can pour over the sides till the fuel level gets lower. No easy fix, remove tank, replace pick up strainer and then drill some holes in the module towards the bottom so if the strainer stops up again, it will still run.
